Sly Cooper PS3 Story “Sucker Punched” By IGN - Ripten Goes To The Source

On May 24th, we reported that a new Sly Cooper title would be making its way to the PS3 and PSP. However in a recent article, IGN is questioning the validity of the story stating that they have put a call into Sucker Punch Productions, the developers of the game, but have yet to receive a call back.
We could have waited for IGN to get that call back, but we opted to call Bruce Oberg, the founder and lead programmer at Sucker Punch directly.
He was very nice, and when asked about the rumor he didn’t say no, of course he did not say yes either. We do feel it is important for us to note that ultimately we were directed to call their PR department to discuss the subject further. We called immediately after, and like IGN we got a machine, but we do think there is something positive to take away from our phone call with Bruce, and that is that he did not say no.

Update 7/5/07 - 2:15PM EST:
We received a call back today from Ken Schramm, PR point person within Sucker Punch Productions, and we were told that Sony Computer Entertainment PR Manager Jennifer Clark issued a statement which he promptly forwarded to us via email. You can read that statemnet for yourself below…
“There have been no announcements made in regards to future Sly Cooper products and there are no plans for the franchise to appear at this year’s E3. Any information that has recently been reported is pure rumor and speculation.”
We wrapped up the call by asking for clarification from Ken, “To be clear, are you saying that the report of the interview taking place is false or are you saying that the game is not being made for the PS3 period?” Ken politely said that he was not going to comment on the latter, however he did say that no interview with any Sucker Punch employee would take place without him being notified, and we believe him.
That said, fans of Sly Cooper have two reasons not to give up hope just yet. One, Sucker Punch is working on a game, what that is has yet to be announced, and two, no one seems to be willing to flat out say that the Sly Cooper game is NOT in development for the PS3.

Is there any eveidence that their is going to be a “Sly 4″ and if so when it is it coming out?

Hi Jenna,
There is nothing concrete yet in terms of evidence, but like the article says they are working on a game and the details of that game have yet to be released. Also, no one that we have spoken to is willing to flat out deny that a Sly Cooper game for the PS3 is NOT in production so until they do fans of the game should not give up hope.

I hope Sucker Punch makes a Sly 4 because Sly Copper has been around for a long time and Sly Copper is a great production. So I think that Sucker Punch should look into making a Sly 4.

DUDE!!! I love Sly cooper! and there is a 4, I bet 100 people from my town alone would buy it! ! ! ! I,ve beaten sly 2 two times! AND ON THE PS3!!! THATS WAY BETTER! Oh and i can draw him like an expert! ( just thought I,d say that.) IF THERE IS A SLY 4!! OMG! I only have one thing to say, I AM SPEACH LESS!

If S.P. is work on a Sly 4, I hope its on the PS2 platform. I’m not allowed to get a PS3.

If there is A sly 4 let us know at least some of the bios and if sly is coming back.

they said that sly 4 might be for psp also, but they only breifly mentioned it so alaina, there is still hope.
i think the first sly game is the best, so hopefully if they do make a fourth sly, it’ll bring back some of the original features(move selection, getting new moves along in the game, original and easier to use binocucom, etc…)
P.S. i only got the sly series for christmas, so im only on the secound game:(

I love Sly Cooper, and have ever game so far made. I have beaten each several times, and a new Sly Cooper game would totally be worth buying. The way they ended the last one left space for another,and so there most likely will be. If it does come out for the PS3 There go my chances with it, because I only have the PS2…
