Sony PS3 80GB Console to “Lack Emotion”

A price drop for the Playstation 3 console was something we all wanted to see happen. Now that it is here we ask, was it the right move at the right time? Sony is taking steps to reduce the price of its console, but that reduction in price comes with a price tag of its own.
When a system is already losing money, reducing it’s price even further so close to its launch is going to come with some baggage. In this case, the 80GB PS3 will arrive in August with Motorstorm, but without the Emotion Engine that allowed it the ability to play PS One and PS2 games. Playstation 3 gamers will now be forced to use emulation software similar to that of the Xbox 360 instead.
“The 80GB model uses a software solution for backwards compatibility, similar to that currently found in the PAL,” said a company spokesperson. “We are putting more of our resources behind creating new content for PS3 users (more than 120 titles are coming this fiscal year) that can take full advantage of PS3 hardware and PSN.”
Sony is keeping their cards close to their chest and not saying much, however they did state that there will be “more details to come” when they release the 80GB unit this August. Stay tuned.

I have the PAL version, and with the newest software, the lack of the emotion engine is NOT a problem… I have a bunch of titles, and they all work perfectly.

How does the ps3 80gb increase online gaming and how does it make it more entusiastic too, besides the fact that there is more room to store things like files and game data. And anyway if i wanted couldn’t i upgrade my ps3 from 60gb to 100 or 120gb, i mean does it really make a difference? and anyway i would rather have a 60gb than 80gb beacuse i can upgrade it later, and also at least i would know that when i have all this space on the ps3, my ps2 and ps0ne games are going to work for a fact, unlike the 80gb that might give me trouble/problems.

this is continuing from my previous commet but even though the ps3 80gb comes with free game the 60 comes with free game the 60 comes with movie and alot of people would like to watch movie than play game, plus the movie is more expensive so it must be good eh?!

where can you get upgrades for your ps3 hdd so taht you can increase the gb

The PS3 HDD is upgradeable, and unlike the Microsoft HDD you can put in any HDD you want.

I was wondering whether to buy a Ps3 for my sons Birthday, as his PS2 has just died, or to just replace the PS2 with the slim version. He is only 9, but really into gaming and teaches children alot older then himeself (and adults)how to do things. Reading all this info the PS3 doesn’t sound too good. Am I right in thinking this?
