by Emily Balistrieri on July 11, 2007 at 1:35 pm
Here are our unpolished thoughts on Nintendo’s press conference. For everything else, check out our wrap-up later this week.
Reggie is happy!
E3 ‘07 as coming out party. Video games take their place by movies and TY as a staple of entertainment.
69% of growth overall comes from Nintendo (Microsoft, 2%)
At the moment DS 25% of all hardware sales in the US.
18+ gamers popping out of the woodwork? And girls, too!
Ok ok, lots of people. Lots of older people. We’d like to see games please!!
Don’t push games on people, pull them with Nintendogs, brain games, Wii Sports– these games are like satellites on the market.
140 more DS games, 100 more Wii games between now and holidays.
Another awesome montage with not only news bites, but also fan bites.
Wii Zapper - housing for remote and nunchuck, FPS, tilt back to reload, Umbrella Chronicles, Ghost Squad, Medal of Honor. Will be available as a pack-in with a first party title, as well as separately for $19.99.
Soul Calibur Legends - different take on the series for Wii
Smack Down Raw 2008 - DS and Wii
Ninja Gaidan Dragon Sword - DS with stylus
Dragon Quest Swords - early next year
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games - 4 players
Super Smash Bros. BRAWL - yay yay yay Dec 3
Phantom Hourglass gameplay - tightrope walking! Not a shallow experience just because of the touch controls.
Metroid - can lock-on and circle target but also aim anywhere, hyper mode, “juggle ultimate power with ultimate price” stay powered up too long and become corrupt
Yay WiiWare, so announce something already. (Starts next year.)
New channel - Check Me Out - enter Miis you make and have them voted on, search through most popular, find your friends’, download ones you like, contents/promos (best Mii of some celebrity, etc.)
Pokemon online…blah blah
Mario Strikers Charged will be online.
Madden and Fifa also online.
Guitar Hero III Legends for Wii exclusive Les Paul
MarioKart Wii online Q1 next year, racing and battling, “more races mean more fun” HOW MANY MORE? Variety of control options.
Custom Wii driving wheel will come packaged in. (Remote housing)
Stream…broken…
Ok, we’re back…
Iwada talks about how good it is that new people are starting to play. Next immediate challenge at Nintendo: destroy the psychological barriers that separate new and return gamers. Accept that games are for everyone. New themes for videogames. Contents should be scalable so that veterans have a good time, too. Need depth and difficulty. Best games are those that everyone can play together.
Super Mario Galaxy - “first worthy successor to Super Mario 64…new gold standard for player interface” (November 12)
Brain Age 2 - purposely losing at rock paper scissors? o_O new games, etc. (August 20th)
Picross DS, My Sims, High School Musical, Rayman Raving Rabids 2, *blip* Flash Focus?, My Word Coach - “make not only your vocabulary, but everything better” (Won’t your GF be happy? XD)
WiiFit - step aerobics for Wii? o_O balance your weight unequally on each foot, push-ups! heading soccer balls, stripped down DDR, marble madness with your feet, yoga? Wheeee. I’m so on the review for this ;p
Miyamoto comes out to announce fitness trainers. Awww Wiimote calibration is off… That guy doing the step aerobics is a brick, but seriously, I guess for people who CAN’T physically accomplish DDR that’s fine. “Spare me my life!” Do we get those girls?
Wii Balance Board - very thin, measures weight and how balance shifts, can use it for a new game interface too, wireless, BODY CHECK? O_O Reggie on the spot. Choose light or heavy clothing, relax, “put down the Wiimote and be even lighter!” We get a measuring loading screen o_O Center of gravity is too far the right o_O BMI over time? God this is like an anorexic’s nightmare! Compare how you’re doing to the rest of your family? They don’t really mean BMI, do they? That’s ridiculous. Now they’re makin’ fun of Reggie.
E3s first soccer heading competition - watch out for cleats and panda heads? o_O Reggie won.
Happy, but not satisfied. Leadership! Yay! Oh, it’s over! Good deal.
