Here’s something to think about. I agree with you on what you’ve brought up. Racism exists. No one’s saying it doesn’t. There are certain things that can without a doubt be dubbed ‘racist’ It can be seen by everyone. Racism can be seen by it’s victims. It can be seen, heard, felt, and it can even hurt and kill. But there have been groups in the past who have pledged to stop racism. By being racist themselves. I myself, even being white have faced racism when I was in school -and- at the same time being called a racist because I was white. Now before anyone accuses me of stereotyping. I’m not saying everyone who’s stood against racism is racist. But prominant figures for “Racial Equality” demand special treatment. They wish only to be on the other end of the stick, and that is human nature. The messages that others have posted on this board are true to their owners statement. But have all been taken out of context, because the context of the issue has not been viewed properly. If anyone can tell me, In the Resident Evil series (every game, from 0 to five, outbreak, remakes what have you) when has there ever been a point, where the main character has not killed in self defense from either a zombie, or a human enemy who has actively tried to kill the player. Some might view, Chris Redfield, a white man in what looks to be possibly haiti, and african nation, or another location with a primarily black population, -killing- indiscriminately an act of racism. But I would be pretty sure, and willing to bet money that he’s not killing anyone who hasn’t been infected with some new virus.

At the end of this long winded post, I will say this as as Bhuddist.

You are allowed your views and beliefs. I’m not writing to change them or discourage you from making them, I’m simply writing to give you another point of view, and to hopefully add some context to this particular event.

As I stated in my previous post I plaid the RE games(and quite enjoyd it) so I know what there about and NO. White killing White is not ok. Any colour killing any colour is wrong. but thats not the point is it?
The point I was trying to make is that this trailer is being show on telivision set all around the globe and the way the film is cut makes it real hard to tell who is zombie and who aint.
And the fact that some people are taking offence because they feel that the tv ad has a racial conotation is no laughing matter.

I’d like to take a moment to write a small nibblet from an interview I conducted with a Zombie earlier this month (July) about the Resident evil: Racist, or entertainment?

Reno: So, mr… i’m sorry, what was your name?

Zombie: Gruhhh…

Reno: Mr. Gruhhh, sorry about that. How -do- you feel on the issue?

Zombie: Braaiiinss…

Reno: dear god! get off me!

Unforutnately before the interview was completed, Mr. Gruhhh the zombie had to be put down for attempting to maul several onlookers.

And the issue is not the living vs the dead… It’s the living versus freaking zombies!

This is getting way out of hand. If a game took place in an asian town and the game was about like an asian mafia or something should the characters be expected to be white. The trailer for RE5 happened to have an african boy turn into a zombie. This doesn’t mean that we should shoot all africans, it means that in the context of this game if you come accross an african, american, asian, hispanic, european, etc. person that is trying to eat you brains then you need to shoot them in the head.
Lets think back to GTA San Andreas. What that game racist. The main charecter was african-american and he killed people. Does that mean that all african americans (martain luther king, barak Obama, etc.) are murderers? No! It means that the character in the game is a murderer.

@David: In a lot of cases, racism is only an issue because people make it one. This is just a game that takes place in this particular part of the world. It has nothing to do with racism. If people actually did their homework on the game before whining about it being racist, they’d realize the storyline isn’t racist at all. It’s actually quite intriguing. In the prior RE games, there was plenty of white STARS members killing white zombies, but did anyone complain then? Of course not, because it’s OK if whites kill each other, right? Too many blacks and the like pull this racism card far too often in matters that have nothing to do with racism. All I can say is slavery ended long ago, so get the fuck over it already.

what a joke….,,It’s not only insulting, it’s flat out unrealistic,,…video games are built on Imagination so as the movies….without it there would be nothing fun to see..+ from what I can see I guess u haven’t seen the Resident Evil or any movie in ur life…..
((in REs movie they said that the Virus makes the host move even after death & search for the first need…food..not love not bed & not money…FOOOOOOOOOOOD))
& if u think about it the virus don’t help thinking or even heart beats….it just uses the host as a weapon….so just zip it cuz u can’t sue Capcom for ur lake of imagination.

forgot to add this little snippet. why can’t it just be a guy killing zombies? Anyone who views it as anything other than that is racist themselves. It doesn’t matter what color they are, how un zombie they look (with better technology its more interesting to show zombie traits in far more subtle ways anyway), or anything else. A Zombie needs to be dealt with.

I Find This article to point out just how ridiculous this whole issue is. In reality any game (or Movie or Book for that matter) in any genre from any generation could be considered racist or sexist or even “zombie-ist”. Every once in a while some naive person goes and starts complaining and gets the whole world riled up. Is guitar Hero sexist because when its a girl vocalist in the song they switch the model out to a female? No, the situation calls for it. If RE5 was set in the mid-west like the first 3 were is it racist that most of the characters be white? No, It makes sense for the situation. Capcom decided to show off the new generation technology with someplace new and bright and dirty. A small village such as is shown is a perfect place to do so. If the rumour is true and it is set in Haiti then it only makes sense that they be mostly if not all dark skinned. Does anyone even know the real reasons anyone has different colored skin in the first place? Because its a form of evolution to adapt to the climate. So certain colors of skin are more prominent in certain climates. And it just so happens that dark skin ends up being more prominent in Haiti. Even if it ends up not being Haiti, I highly doubt its anywhere like Scotland because that wouldn’t make sense to anyone in regard to what we saw in the trailer.

I find your article very disturbing. I dont think it’s amusing to be making light of race issues. Some people feel very strongly about racial insults and discrimination(real or imaginary). I personaly have plaid the RE game saga and would have to say that I have enjoyed it as much as anyone else, but when I saw the trailer to RE5 I have to admite that there was a weird gut feeling saying something was wrong. Maybe it the way it hard to tell the differance between the Zombies and the rest of the african populations. I don’t know but what I do know is that RASISM IS NOT FUNNY!!!
