Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer – One Trick Pony on PSN?

The GameStops and EB Games of the world are crapping their pants as we speak. In case you missed Gamespot’s review of Konami’s “Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer” it mentioned the following:
It’s also worth noting the online registration process, which locks your copy of the game to your Konami account for online play. This means that if you ever want to sell your copy of the game, the next person will be unable to play online unless he or she has your registration details. To our knowledge this is the first time this has happened in a PS3 title, and Konami’s UK office declined to respond to inquiries over why the system was implemented.
Contrary to what was said in the Gamespot piece, this is not the first time, as the very same thing happened with Warhawk, which explained why we were unable to find any used copies of the game anywhere. While this is less bothersome for an online only game, if this trend continues it could absolutely demolish the second hand game purchasing industry.
We put a call in to Konami’s PR department in an effort to obtain a comment regarding the matter, although we have yet to receive a call back. Stay tuned as we plan on following this very closely.
