How to Beat Lou (the Devil) in Guitar Hero 3

Pro tips to help you bring the devil down…
If you’ve gotten to song 42 in Guitar Hero 3, you know what a jerk the devil can be in a rock-off. The demon code prevents him from declining a rock-off challenge, but that doesn’t mean he won’t cheat his way to stealing your soul.
Whether you’re playing on medium, hard, or expert, we found some helpful tips on how to bust a massive, monster mamma-jam and send this upstaging prick back to hell. This website has a collection of blog posts and ideas with tips on how to beat Lou, but here are the basics.
Practice! It’s nearly impossible to use tricks to beat Lou. You’ll just have to get really good at the song, which is extra tough considering you can’t practice The Devil Went Down to Georgia without being in the battle. If you can’t make it after a few tries, rest your tired hands and try again later.
Power up! The battle powerups don’t start to appear until a third of the way through the song (after the part where the devil picks up his bow), so you’ll have to patiently sit through the introduction many times. Focus on just the tasty riffs that reward you with powerups, but save them for when you need them.
Persevere! When Lou sends you an attack, try to survive it, if only to get another powerup. Lefty flips, double notes, and difficulty ups are the trickiest to live through, so pray that he only gets a whammy or broken note for you. If you are on the receiving end of an amp overload, rely on your memory of the song to get you through.
Pulverize! Lou is really damn good. Only a series of attacks will end his reign. Instead of piling on 2 or 3 attacks, wait until you’ve got them all ready to go and then unleash them one at a time (waiting for one to end before the next). It helps if you wait until after the lull that comes halfway through the song (during the part when Johnny prepares to play his solo).
Party! After Lou goes down you’ve got a relatively easy solo to “finish him”. When you’re done, and have beaten Guitar Hero 3, you’ll be glad you stuck it out.
Good luck! You’ll need it, along with some epic skills. If you need some inspiration (and don’t mind witnessing the end of the game) check out the video below.

i really like the guitar hero series, but honestly most kids that i know would just give up when they get to this song! i’ve been playing this ONE SONG for 3 days and i still can’t beat it. i’m not normaly an angry person, but this song gets me so pissed off every time i play it!!!

Ok - we beat Lou on medium. Is there a way to be able to just play the song now and not have to battle Lou everytime? I love this song and don’t want to have to stress of a battle every time.

You People Make Me Laugh Saying How Tough It Is, Play Lou The Devil On Expert (or better yet play Dragonforce on expert) then say something…

thanks lucas
if you do practice enough, you will start to get better. its common sense. ive been playing all the difficult songs like raining blood, cliffs of dover, one, and lou; all on medium so when i feel im good enough, i can advance to hard. this is my stradegy but im getting all 5 star every time i play medium songs, hyperspeed also helps getting used to the faster speeds of hard and expert.

To all who say the wii version is toned down and made easier, don;t because the songs are just as hard, maybe even harder on the wii version. Get the wii version, then play the song, you will see that they made the wii version harder.

me and my sister just got to this around 5pm. its 1am now and we have not left the tv, and no…we have not beaten lou.
we got to the last set of expert and the songs were just too gnarly. we did them all on hard, and now we are stuck on the stupid devil went stupid down to stupid georgia…stupid.
soooo annoying…But WE WILL DEFEAT LOU
eventually

The wii version is sooo much easier. I had no problem beating Lou on hard, but now that I’ve upgraded to the 360, I can’t beat him on hard… at all.

Yeah, Lou is really hard..i just beat him on expert yesterday after about two months of being on that song..although i did put down an energy drink before attempting, which obviously helps i’ve now beat guitar hero 3, along with through the fire and flames on expert a few times, around 7 times i believe, highest score i’ve got on it is about 299 thousand..not that great but its still something, it takes time, and alot of effort to get good at the game but eventually all the practice will pay off..i’ve been playing for about a year now..so yeah, all i can really say is best of luck to everyone else.

Lou is ****in’ hard! I finally beat him yesterday on expert. I tried to beat Lou for one week! YOu have to get lucky and get a whammy in the beginning. Also, if you get hit by an amp overload, try to memorize the song. Finally, keep on trying!

It’s just a game people. No need to start cursing at each other.
I can’t get past set seven on hard but I can get through set 6 on expert. Does that make sense to anyone else?

Ok Guys… You Want To Be Like That, I Will Post My Video Of Me Beating Through Fire And Flames On Expert With 86%… And For All The Haters I Have Been Playing For A Year So Actually I Am Quite Good… In Fact I Play Two Instruments On Rock Band At The Same Time, I Can Play Any Instrument With The Vocals At The Same Time On Expert… All It Is Is Hand Eye Cooridination… It Doesnt Matter If It’s For The Wii Or Not… First Time I Ever Played I Beat A Song On Hard With A 73%… And As For You Lucas Redman, I May Not Play A REAL Guitar… But I Dont Play The Drums And Sing In A Death Metal Band… So Dont Even Talk Buddy…
on August 1, 2008 12:25 pm
i can’t even beat lou on easy let alone expert
on August 28, 2008 7:13 am
how do you get the god of rock?
on September 29, 2008 11:19 am
lmfao…You kids crack me up. Guitar Hero is so easy. I might be saying this because I’ve played since the first one. (No offense to you people who just started I understand, cause everyone has to start somewhere). Anyway, I got GH3 the first day it came out and beat it on expert in a day including Lou and Through the Fire and Flames. I played that song three times, the first time i got 90% second i got 93% and the third time i got 100%. I mean…the song is full of hammer-ons and hammer-offs. The Devil Went Down to Georgia is pretty much the same. If ya’ll wanna see me play, then you can contact me on my xbox live account wich is WiseKise94. And I agree with Deebo The Viking. It doesn’t matter if you play it on the wii, ps2, ps3, xbox, or xbox 360. It’s all the same. I’ve played all of them and beat them on expert. I have never once played easy, medium, or hard with a guitar, only a hand-held controller. Now I can’t play Guitar Hero for the next 4-6 weeks because I just had surgery. If you wanna be a Guitar Hero Expert, then all I can really say is…just keep trying and don’t give up…if you guys want me to help you with the inhuman achievement and stuff like that…in return I want 500 microsoft points. I’ll tell you something right now too so I don’t wast my breath telling you. I don’t have the achievement on this account because I havn’t really played the carrer because it’s to boring. The account that has all 59 achievements got hacked by some kid because I beat him at Madden 125-7. Also, you get the God of Rock by purchasing him in the store for 20,000 for the Xbox 360 only…..PEACE OUT DAWGS…and best of luck to ya.
