feature-creep-ps3-firmware-update-v-2-0-is-here-home-beta-in-game-xmb-are-not

sony_firmware_20.jpg

After tons of speculation about which features were going to be included in the 2.0 firmware update, PS3 2.0 is finally available for download. This was the most anticipated update for the PS3 yet, as some people were expecting in-game music, an open beta of Home, or the much needed in-game XMB to check online messages. Unfortunately, for those who had their hopes up for update 2.0, I’m sad to say that none of those features are in it (although it’s still a nice update nonetheless.)

The 2.0 firmware update does have a very cool new feature that allows you to customize your XMB to match your wallpapers. What’s more, you can even crate you own XMB by visiting Sony’s Japanese website.

A mini news monitor has also been added to keep you up to date on all the latest game releases and Sony media news, but if this isn’t your type of thing then it can easily be turned off through the XMB. Last but not least, you now have playlists for your music and photos to show off to the family and friends, instead of rooting through five different folders just to get one or two pictures at a time.

So all and all it wasn’t a bad update, but we still need that in-game XMB. Some say it will be integrated with Home, which won’t be released until spring next year.
