I said, put another shrimp on the barbie, NOW!!!
Soldier of Fortune: Payback, the latest in a series famed and feared for its vicious dismemberment, has been toned down for its Australian release and will be subsequently un-banned.
MyGen.com.au reported:
“If you’re wondering what’s missing from the Australian release of Soldier of Fortune: Payback, I have spoken to Activision and I can confirm that dismemberment will skip this release along with scaled down blood effects and rag doll physics”
I can still remember playing the first Soldier of Fortune demo. I was carrying around a shotgun when all of a sudden a bad guy leaped out at me from behind a corner. Instinctively, I fired at his head, leaving a gushing stump. I subsequently freaked out.
This landmark in virtual violence is as powerful for me as the first time I saw Sub Zero’s fatality in the original Mortal Kombat. Now Australian teenagers of the next generation can be freaked out by SoF Payback, albeit without a lot of what made the original so shocking.
Check back soon for a review of the super-bloody American version of Soldier of Fortune: Payback.
