If you are one of the many gamers out there who are confused when it comes to region free and region locked gaming, then the list below provided by Jonathan Cresswell, of the British Gaming Blog, will definitely come in handy this holiday shopping season.
Sony Playstation 3
The PS3 isn’t region locked for games: any bought will work on it. However, it’s not the same for Blu-Ray movies, as the console will be locked down to one of the three regions for that. Europe is in region 2/B, and America/Japan are in region 1/A.Microsoft Xbox 360
Some games on the 360 are region free. Generally most games aren’t, but a fair few are. There are several websites you can look up to check if a game is compatible on your console – Play-Asia is pretty good normally.
Nintendo Wii
Wii is 100% region locked: American games won’t work on European consoles.Sony PSP
PSP is like the PS3: games are region free, but the UMD movies are region locked.Nintendo DS
Totally region free, any game will work.
