The “Vii” Vies for Your Attention in New Wii Knockoff Trailer
by Cavin Smith on December 2, 2007 at 2:54 pm

No, it’s not the name of a new console for Dracula, but China’s most blatant knock-off yet. Attempting to ride high on Nintendo’s coattails, the system comes with plenty half-assed facsimiles of popular Wii software from Bowling to Cooking Mama.
Unlike the Polystation or TriStar 64, the Vii seems to have a surprising amount of effort put into its marketing. How can you deny a glowing recommendation from industry luminary “James,” sometimes known as the Reggie Fils-Aime of the East? Hit the jump for a highly questionable product demonstration.

Looks fun. Funny how most of the users were single children playing alone or with their parents and grandparents. I wish my grandparents cheered me on at video games.

the people advertising it actually seem to be advertising the vii for fitness purposes, with the parents saying they dont have to spend a ton of money on fitness equipments or games, and the kids telling people they’re sweaty and having fun.
also, apparantly it unstagnates your house and links one generation to the next.
(and they say 12 games a ton of times)
and james is hilarious.
and what’s up with the engadget page at the end?
weird.

Here is essentially a translation - not direct - jazzed it up to make it more American but you get the idea … but you can pretty much substitute elk jerky, coffee can grill or whatever information is selling this week …
the Vii is really great
Your eyes are not fooling you, it’s not just a videogame system but an indoor exercise machine - it’s really great!
Stand in front of your TV to play sports, go fishing, and fun games!
No need to worry about the weather outside or time constraints - James, an Olympian says, “Kids should start early in exercising in life, that’s one the greatest gifts a parents could give their children.”
The Vii is really great!
Kids can play & exercise all day at home without travel to and from some expensive day camps/exercise classes - comes with 12 exercise & sporting games … plus more!
Mama’s Cooking, table tennis, mini golf! …
Just use your hands for control - it’s great fun!
(kids give testimonials - it’s REALLY is fun! The fishing is just like the real thing! It’s hard work like exercise!)
REPEAT (like any good informercial):
Stand in front of your TV to play sports, go fishing, and games!
Simple Chinese instructions - easy for kids and all ages!
45 minutes a day to keep your kids fit and strengthen their hand-eye coordination,
Comes in 3 color choices - 12 “sporting” games included and color controllers!
(Kid catches fish - happy!)
Olympian James: Be like me, I won a gold medal (then they cut him off).
What can families do together in this day and age that is fun for everyone?
The Vii is great and REPEAT AGAIN - Stand in front of your TV to play 12 different games - sports, fishing, and games!
Simple Chinese instructions - easy for kids and all ages!
45 minutes a day to keep your kids fit and strengthen their hand-eye coordination,

The Vii is great and REPEAT AGAIN - Stand in front of your TV to play 12 different games - sports, fishing, and games!
Kids or adults will easily find a a sporting/exercise activity/games they love best!

This whole “It’s good for exercise” is not even an issue. The fact of the matter is that the Vii is too close of a knock-off of the Wii. And if kids need to exercise, then they need to do it outside instead of in front of a TV.
Nintendo invested many years in research and development, not to mention money into creating the Wii, and here comes some Chinese company knocking them off.
Why couldn’t this Chinese company be more creative? It’s okay to make a competing video game system, but you don’t copy EVERYTHING from a competitor. The Chinese have no respect for copyright laws and this “Chintendo Vii” is the perfect example of that.
I know people say that the Vii is more affordable than the Wii, and that’s true. But still, it’s like being forced to drink store brand cola instead of Coca-Cola… because in the end you’re gonna want the REAL THING.
There is no reason to feel good about yourself when owning a Vii. All you’re saying is “I like cheap stuff.” Nobody likes to have 3rd rate stuff, and that is what this Vii is. If you can’t afford a Wii, then save some money so that you can get one. Treat yourself to the to a Wii, you deserve it.
And if you like being cheap regardless, then good luck with your Chintendo. Have fun playing “Come On” and “Fry Egg”. And while you’re at it, get one of those new fake Chinese BMWs and watch the paint come off the car while you drive in the rain.
Cheap stuff never lasts.

Can anyone tell me of any original Chinese ideas from the last 500 years?
on December 3, 2007 9:13 pm
Wow that is some weird stuff! Who is going to develop the games? Even if they release an SDK package, no one is going to develop it. Ha I want to see the future of this…
on December 3, 2007 9:25 pm
Am discusted. I think they may have a lawsuit on there case.

so its a knock off so what (apart from the legal ramifications but does china really bother about such things, its not ripping of the usa so they wont be bothered)yes it will sell in china, yes games will be produced in china and yes it will definatly sell millions as you only have to consider the population of that contry and the political system there to realise this fact
