Beowulf Gone Budget in Record Time

Beowulf the movie is certainly not a budget title. It uses the latest technology to create a 3d CG experience like never before, and employs actors at the top of their game – who surely cost a bomb. The budget must be huge. Budget for the game? Hmm…well it could still be quite significant, but with this news they can’t have put that much cash into at all.
Beowulf: The Game has only just released on the Xbox360 and Playstation3, but low and behold, what do we spy on the retailer Gamestop’s website? The game has been reduced to $19.99 on both next-generation consoles. In fact, no sign of a reduced price is there at all, or a crossed out higher price – it’s simply listed as $19.99.
Has the game bombed already? It’s dropped to a budget price, a price that most Playstation2 games don’t hit this early on.
What’s going on? Have Gamestop got to the brandy and slipped at the keyboard? Or do the profits from the film mean the game doesn’t need to make that much profit, or that $20 means it will fly off the shelves this holiday?
Who knows – I’d say they spent very little on making the game in the first place so are only set to gain, which begs the question; is developing for next-generation consoles and especially the Playstation3, really that expensive?
