These Games Aren’t Worthy For Your Kids

Children Should Only Play With Fluffy Bunnies
While the good boys and girls eagerly await the fat man in the red suit with visions of Mario Galaxy and Guitar Hero dancing in their heads, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has released her third-annual list of “naughty” games for the holiday season.
Contrary to what most people might suspect, Manhunt does not top the list. Instead, the highly controversial game comes in second to perennial gaming pariah Grand Theft Auto.
While these may come as no surprise, there is one title on the list that may draw more than a few WTFs (parents tell your children that this stands for “Where’s The Froggy”)
For some reason Worthy finds Killer 7 – the PS2 and GamCube title from 2005 – a threat to America’s youth. Now, I’m not quite sure how a two-year old game from the previous console generation that I bought in a bargain bin for 10 bucks a year ago got on this list, but there it is.
Other notables include three generations of gangsters: The Godfather, Scarface: The World is Yours and 50 Cent: Bulletproof. The Spartans of ancient Greece have made a strong showing, with God of War and 300: The Game coming in at 9 and 5, respectively.
Below is the complete list. Have a look for yourself.
1. Grand Theft Auto
2. Manhunt
3. Scarface
4. 50 Cent Bulletproof
5. 300: The Videogame
6. The Godfather
7. Killer-7
8. Resident Evil 4
9. God of War
10. Hitman Blood Money
Of course, Worthy couldn’t resist playing the “videogames make kids violent” card.
“Please do not buy these video games and bring them into your home,” Worthy said. “It desensitizes (children) to violent acts.”
“It’s no wonder we’re seeing the crimes we’re seeing lately,” she said.
Yes, because violent crimes couldn’t be linked to much deeper issues in our society. But that’s a discussion for another day.
