Assassin’s Creed Becomes the Fastest Selling New IP in US Videogame History

Altaïr, the free-running, robe-wearing, back-stabbing assassin is set to become the fastest selling new Intellectual Property in American videogame history.
After selling an estimated two and a half million copies worldwide in just four weeks, Ubisoft has raised their total sales forecast for the game during fiscal 2007-08. They are now predicting sales of around five million copies of the game, two million more than originally predicted.
With a Metacritic score of 82, Assassins Creed is a strong title, yet one with accepted and commonly reported flaws. Jade Raymond, the game’s producer, has been at the centre of much of the negative hype surrounding the game after rather unflattering cartoons of her began to circulate the net.
You don’t need to look hard to find some criticism of the actual game, either, like the repetitive gameplay, buggy AI, poor combat system. Yet gamers seem to have looked past these and instead proved that good graphics, a novel idea, and solid marketing really can push a game’s sales into the record books.
