2007, This is Duke Nukem Calling

by Dan Landis on December 18, 2007 at 10:59 pm

Ten years and counting, should have been titled “Duke Nukem: Taking Forever”

Hello, this is 2007 speaking. Oh, Duke Nukem! Long time no see, my friend! What’s that you say? You’re going to drop by tomorrow? Ha ha ha! That’s a good one! You’ve pulled that one on almost every year before me — but I’m not falling for it.

Well, 2007, it looks like this may not be a prank after all. George Broussard, over at the official 3D Realms forums, let loose the news that a trailer for the long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever is set to bring the Internet to its knees.

“Tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, around noon CST, we will release the first teaser trailer from Duke Nukem Forever.”

To quench our thirst for the Duke’s appearance, he offered this screenshot (click to enlarge):

Now don’t get me wrong. This is exciting news, but after 10 years of development and the legendary dispute as to whether or not the game even exists, the trailer needs to explode my face off.

With all this build-up, I have a feeling we’ll all be walking away with blue-balls. How could ANYTHING possibly live up to that much hype and anticipation? Let’s hope 3D Realms gives us the sugar… baby.

I don’t know if it can live up to any measure of hype, but I’m almost willing to buy/play it out of pure curiosity.

It’s like paying the entrance fee to a freak show!

    Freak shows are cool.

    i love duke nukem.

    my guess for the trailer:

We open on a sunny day at starbucks. Gordon Freeman and Master chief conversing over latte’s when the shadow of a huge form falls on their faces.

    They both look up.

    Master Chief whispers, “oh..no…he’s back.”

    Freeman begins to cry.

a voice like gravel comes from the shadow:

    “only girls wear armor.”

bullets shred freeman, the cheif and everyone in the starbucks and then the entire state is nuked.

an ash covered form is the only thing left standing in inside of a bombed out storefront. His back is on us. we zoom in as he lifts a lit cigar to his mouth. as the screen fades to black we hear the same gravel voice:

    “hail to the king baby.”

    duke nukem forever logo appears.

Ha-Ha. Ladies and gentlemen there is a 3d Realms mole among us….

If you aren’t a mole, maybe you should go work for 3d Realms’ PR department. If that really was the trailer, I would laugh and stuff, then maybe give you a high five.

dan, thanks buddy. the trailer turned out to be pretty good actually, i thought. did you see it? but i really would of liked to see him beating up some other FPS protagonists.

    @Jon

That trailer would be the shit. The only thing that would make it better, after the forever logo, Duke corpse-humping MC.

Yeah, I saw it. Kinda lame. I guess that’s what most “teaser” trailers end up being, though. Your trailer idea would have been much better, so I think I may owe you a high-five for creativity.

I’m taking you up on that high five dude. those don’t come around everyday.

Excited ain’t the word! Bird is the word, bitches! I mean, I played the original Duke in the AHcades, and I loved it! So any news about the Duke, is greatly fantabulously appreciated news…bitches.
