Warhawk Importers Shafted on Downloadable Content?

by Patrick Steen on December 19, 2007 at 2:21 pm

omega_16-copy.jpg Many Europeans were impatient and imported Warhawk from the US. In fact my brother picked up Warhawk from the US and it works perfectly on my PAL Playstation 3, but we might now be shafted with region coding.

In a reply to the question “Will the downloadable content be region coded?”on the Official Playstation Blog, Dylan Jobe of Incognito responded with:

More or less yes…it’s not based on hardware region code, but based on the region where you purchased the game Warhawk. USA, Europe, Japan, etc.

This presumably means that Warhawk importers need to buy the US Omega Dawn Pack, which isn’t possible since foreigners can’t buy content from the US Playstation Store.

There may be a get around, since there is an online Warhawk store which will prompt you to buy the pack. The store might recognise that you have a US copy of Warhawk and thus forward the US pack to you. However, this would make the region-coding slightly pointless.

I for one am not willing to buy the pack with my hard earned monies to discover if this does indeed work, even though the pack appears to be up early. I should have grabbed it when it was free.

Leave us a comment if you’re in the same situation.

“You can buy stuff from the US ps store”

No you can’t. You can download FREE things from the US Store, but unless your credit card is based in America with an American address you CANNOT buy “stuff” from the US store.

I happen to believe most Europeans don’t have an American Credit/Debit card.

I dont think my 1st post is going to be published so in the meantime here it is..

remember #thisisliving on Efnet for news and information.

Some people seem to be a little confused about buying downloads from International PSN Stores due to various issues.

It’s fairly simple and should take just a few minutes if you follow these instructions.

    —————————————————————————————–

    General Instructions

You’ll need a separate User Account for each international Store you want access to.

    1) Set up a User Account on your PS3 for the country that you want using address details for that country. Please see below for specific advice on setting up JP Accounts as there can be specific problems for those accounts. Use Google to find a valid address for the country that you’re signing up to.

    2) On your PS3 create a Store Account while signed in to the newly created international User Account.

    3) On the PS3 add a credit/debit card to the newly created Store Account. Not all cards will allow you to do this:
If yours doesn’t go to Part 4
If yours does go to Part 5

    4) On your PC create a virtual credit card with Wirecard using your real address and real debit card details. Register this newly created virtual credit card number/expiry/date and your real address as the payment card details of your new Store Account. You won’t be able to change the country on PSN when registering a card, that doesn’t matter.

    5) Your Store Account will now be now registered with either a valid Debit Card or Wirecard.

    6) Sign into the Store and spend away…

    —————————————————————————————–

    Creating Accounts: USA/HK/JP

Setting up a USA or Hong Kong Account is relatively simple as English can be used for both.

Setting up a Japanese Account is a little more complicated for most of us due to the language barrier.

One way to do it is to take notes as you’re signing up an English language account so that you know what each option means.

There is an easier way though…I’ve managed to track down this video which takes you through setting up an American Account step by step. Just follow this through one page at a time as the options are the same for all region Stores.

It took me a while to find a suitable video but it should make signing up for a Japanese Account far easier than the hit and miss method I used myself.

    —————————————————————————————–

    Working International Addresses

These are the details that I am using for my international PSN accounts

Not all of these details will be checked when you try to use the card, the ones that will be checked have the correct information in the listed.

    USA
    Street Address 1: 555
    Street Address 2: Madison Avenue
Street Address 3: **leave this empty**
    City: New York
    State/Province: New York
    Postal Code: 10022
    Country/Region: United States

    Honk Kong
Street Address 1: your house number or name
Street Address 2: your street name
    Street Address 3: your town/city
    District: Kowloon
    City: Kwun Tong
    Country: Kwun Tong

    Japan
    line 1: 5
    line 2: any should do
    line 3: Minato-ku
    line 4: Tokyo
    line 5: Tokyo
    line 6: Japan

    —————————————————————————————–

    Wirecard: Mastercard Details

To find your Virtual Mastercard details (Card Number, Expiry Date & Security Code) you will need to first add funds to your Wirecard and then select the “My Mastercard” tab on the main page.

    —————————————————————————————–

    Wirecard: Fees

Like PayPal, Wirecard will charge you for transferring money in and out but the fees seem fair and are comparable to PayPal fees.

When you transfer any amount into your Wirecard account, any relevant fees will be withdrawn at the same time in addition to the requested amount being transferred. If you request to transfer £10 into your account and the additional fee is £1 then a total of £11 will be transferred from your bank or card at that time.

Please remember to account for these fees when you are transferring money.

Please see here for more detailed information on the specific fees.

    —————————————————————————————–

    Global Store Currencies

Wirecard uses Euros when you transfer money into your account and each Store will take payments in their local currency.

Use something like the XE.com Converter to work out conversion details.

Not true… I purchased out-side europe and still get the update and booster

  5. Patrick Steen
    on December 19, 2007 3:26 pm

James…it’s all compatible then is it? I’m only asking for confirmation that it does indeed work. If so I can update.

    So explain.

    1. Is your game a hard copy/psn download
    2. Which country are you based in?
    3. Which country did you buy Warhawk from.
    4. Does the download work properly?

If this isn’t true, then Dylan’s talk about region coding is false. I’m only going by his word.

Komp: I don’t think having to sign up to a company that charges you fees and uses your credit card is necessary. A fix/further information would be better.

If you want to buy something from the Japan store (eg. GT5P) you can simply buy a Japan PSN card.

  6. James
    on December 19, 2007 3:29 pm

Well I had no problem with it. I have the BLURAY version bought from the US… I´m in Portugal and connect to the European store. And as soon as the two things were available I got them (patch and Omega).

I even was luck enough to catch the free European download.

Now as far as the PSN cards… dunno there.

  7. Patrick Steen
    on December 19, 2007 4:05 pm

    Well maybe I’ll give it a go…

    Thanks for the response James.

  9. Patrick Steen

Well the Pack isn’t even there for me. It says “No available new content” So this may indeed be a real problem.

  10. Tony Nibbles
    on December 19, 2007 7:41 pm

afaik – all games are region free, but DLC is region-specific.
I.E: You can play your U.S game on your U.K console, with your U.S DLC – it’ll all work. But…

You buy a U.S game from a U.S Store then you also buy the DLC for that game from a U.S store.

I’ve had no problems buying content in the U.S store with my UK HSBC Mastercard. No direct credit-card *address* authentication takes place.

  11. Josh
    on December 20, 2007 7:10 am

I have the same problem, it wont show up for me (im in the UK and imported warhawk from the US) all we can do is hope it goes on the playstation store (not the in-game one) and hope that its compatible with the US verisons :(

  12. Chris
    on December 20, 2007 7:57 am

Bought the US game to play on a Japanese console in Japan, downloaded the Japanese content pack and it does NOT work.

  13. Kenshin001
    on December 20, 2007 9:30 am

I have the same problem. Live in Japan, imported the US disc of Warhawk as I wanted the English language version, have an Australian account and therefore can not access the DLC. It is the same with other DLC content too eg. the Devil’s Weekend pack of Motorstorm. That is when I first noticed the DLC is region locked even though the actual disc games are region free.

People living in countries without PSN stores eg. India, Middle East, who have imported are facing the same issue. The US store will not accept my Australian Visa card so I am stuck. Majorly disappointed.

I bought my copy while I still lived in the states, I now love in Sweden and play warhawk with my EU account. No omega dawn for me… WTF? Am I supposed to go out and buy it all over again? WTF??!

Has anyone tried borrowing a EU disc and download the booster pack and the keep playing your US disc?

    Wow, pretty disappointed here.
Since I live in Shanghai, China and bought the US version through an importer(HK version wasnt available for a long time), but only have a HK PSN account I’m pretty screwed.
Now I have to buy the game all over AND pay extra for Omega.

SONY, what are you doing to us?
Please tell me they will fix this, as probably the most devoted Warhawk fans are the nes who imported the game. Don’t shaft us hardcore supporters!

  21. ash
    on December 21, 2007 7:50 am

i have exactly the same problem as you guys, im mad i was looking forward to playing this new thing, i havent played warhawk in a while and i have a Us copy of the game and i live in UK, downloaded the pack off the uk store and its not working, i lost my money.. – what a total let down.

  22. brendan fegan

Same thing here. got my US BD Warhawk.. and downloaded my expansion in the HK PSN cause its the only place where my creditcard works…

it was all too late when I found out that its region locked…

hope They’ll make it region free.. They lose a lot of fans if they dont..

    truly disappointed..

what makes it even worse is the fact that there will be no way for us to *ever* get any new content for warhawk if they keep it the way it is. because im certainly not forking out more money to get a eu version of the game when i paid top price for the us edition in the first place.

  39. manicscot007
    on December 28, 2007 10:28 am

Guys, I have tried a wirecard account with the US Store but in way I can get it working.

There must be something that can be done.
I’m in Malta but there is not even a store here, my wife picked Warhawk up when she was away on a buisness trip.

There must be a way to get the pack we need.
I just hope The DEV’s won’t forget us loyal warhawkers.

I want to pay for it but the US store will not take any of our 4 different credit cards just because our billing address is in Malta and not the US!!

Come on Devs, please help us we want our warhawk back and are willing to pay for it!

  40. manicscot007
    on December 28, 2007 2:46 pm

Komp, I’ve followed yoiur instructions to the letter all I get is invalid Credit card details after inputting the Billing address.

I’ve confirmed and reconfirmed my wirecard details and all is showing perfect.

What the blazes is going on ?? I really need the US version of the pack!

    Now I’m sad, really sad

  41. ash
    on December 29, 2007 2:46 pm

  42. ash
    on December 29, 2007 2:50 pm

manicscot i see you all over the sony forums, my handle there is eerazor i think theres nothing we can do, just keep posting in that post so the devs see it and play the waiting game…

  43. manicscot007
    on December 30, 2007 11:14 am

    Hi ash,

Aye its imperative we keep that thread alive especially on the US forums.

Just so you know I have a similer thread going on in the UK Playstation Forums as well!!

We need to be able to download the US Version of the pack..All they have to do is to let us purchase it on their website and they give a code or something. If not that at least they need to let us use credit cards on the US Store. Damnit my wifes visas are used all over the world but not the blooming US PS Store!!!!

Lets also not forget that Warhawk is an online ONLY game and for me at least without the pack the game is RUINED!!!

They have to address these issues, I just wonder when they will even acknowledge us or that there is a problem!

  44. ash
    on December 31, 2007 10:34 am

manic, the guy who made this thread, patric steen has emailed me and asked me to write down the forum names of all people who are having this problem.. it doesent seem like an easy task.. would you help me out with it? can you write down all the names of the people with the issue from the euro forums and possibly this thread and ill write down the names of the people on the us forum and maybe we can get a nice list going.. get back to me if you can, thanks

They better fix this soon, Phil Harrison banged on about region free games non-stop in interviews before the release in the UK and Sony must know about all the import websites… If this isn’t fixed soon, I’ll be demanding a refund for the game and the pack.

I now have the pack from a US friend – it works fine.

if anyones in the flip side of the same boat that I am in i.e. (for some reason) has an EU version of game but can only get US pack (and has already downloaded it); hit me up and we can both get what we want… :)

  60. manicscot007
    on January 17, 2008 11:51 am

Lucky You Patrick…I don’t suppose any kind yank or other with access to the Pack would let a wee Scot download it ?

This is maddening an ONLINE ONLY game RUINED!!!

The pack is NOT an option is a Neccesity to contiue playing, hence they need to let those of us without a store get access to it!

I haven’t had a clan game since the 21st december thanks to this farce!!! Aye I’m fuming mad now…Spent the whole of Christmas doing nothing else then trying to get the pack off the us store but none of mine or my wifes credit cards would be accepted!!!!

Thankyou Sony for NOTHING!!! You don’t even want our hard earned money!!!!

I have lost total faith in Sony and the brand now but I’ll be damned If I’m not heard at least!!!!

If anyone has any compassion and would let me download the ruddy booster pack add me to your Psn ID’s and I’ll also gladly re-imburse you the ruddy US$7.99!!

FFS…It only costs US$7.99 and all this hassle. This is the biggest farce I’ve ever seen. Also whats with the the PS3 being hammered as region free..Aye the games are but the DLC isn’t!!! What sort of logic is this ????

And with an online only game there are no excuses..Store or no store available..Warhawk is ONLINE ONLY!!! Therefore the pack is a MUST!!!

Sony!!!! We’re WILLING to pay, We’re WANTING to pay and damnit we’re WAITING pay!!!

Get your heads out of your backsides and let us get back to warhawking!!!!!!

Even my wife is missing it and thats saying something!!!

Sorry for my rant guys but some things needed to be said and well I’ve been holding this in almost a month a now!!!

  61. manicscot007
    on January 17, 2008 12:27 pm

Patrick, I don’t know here..I’mn just shooting fish in a barrel here but even if they made the US version of the pack free for download say for 48 hours as a promotion. It could work.

I’m not saying I want it for free, hell my wife and I set up 2 different wirecard accounts to try and buy it off the US store, along with paypal and our international credit cards that we can use EVERYWHERE except the ruddy PSN STORE (in this case the US one).

If at least they did this( making it free to download for a few hours…I’m sure it would restore alot of peoples faith in both Sony and Warhawk!). I’m not arguing bec i want it free, I’m arguing because I want to pay for it so badly and warhawk is BROKEN without it.

  62. Ben
    on January 17, 2008 6:45 pm

OK I have the same problem with having purchased/imported the US Region 1 version and buying Omega Dawn on the Australian (where I live) PSN site.

It irks me to no end that I had to waste a couple of hours trying to get a download to work (worth $8US each – x2 cause I had to buy it twice).

Because I’ve worked in the States previously and still have credit cards and bank accounts, I was able to setup a second User and configure them to the US PSN. But it was the most convoluted process and one that I was only made aware of by searching on the Internet. This should not happen for such a high profile product like Warhawk and should not happen for Sony (as they have consistently played the region free card for games).

This makes me wonder about other content downloads for games like Folklore, Motorstorm and Ninja Gaiden. I also have bought these games from overseas and now need to think twice about making any purchase from PSN.

I know there are lot more than 40 of you complaining, sign the petition so we can send a reasonable representation of how many people are affected.

Ash, sometime this issue has to be addressed.

Sony cannot hide their heads in the sand over this one…Its a biggie.

Oh I’ve moved on, atm I’m basically only on Oblivion but moving on does not mean we don’t fight for whats only right and fair.

I understand you pal, but we still need to at least get a response out of this.

Who knows maybe in Patch 1.3 which is supposidly due out the end of this month might have a suprise in it for us?

I’m not holding my breath but its a possibility as this issue is way to big for it to be ignored.

At the very least we can keep this thread and the other one we have on the US forums alive and kicking…After all anything is possible!

    Hi Patrick,

We’re still all in the same position.

Even I tried to download it via a friends account but it kept giving me the invalid sign in error.

Perhaps you can help us gain more coverage and let others know of our plight.

The more exposure we get the better…This is ruining the game for all of us.

We still have no comment either from Dylan on our 300 + Post thread still active on the US forums.

Please pass on the word if you can.

We need all the help we can get!

    Thanks.

hey, guys, seriously, i think we should just give up, the die-hard attitude to keeping this thread alive, just seems futile to me, — and thats coming from a fellow supporter. much mlove.. ash. (if anyone wants to catch me on PSN my ID is Area -524) thanks~!

Don’t worry guys, I’m working on it. We’ll get a response.

As I said I now have the pack…I got a US friend to share it with me. The secret is to KEEP their profile name on your PS3. Do not create a new account and download the pack, install it, and then delete their account – because it won’t work. You must keep their account on your PS3 – but you don’t need to sign into their account to play.

Hope that helps. Plenty of people will share – just buy some EU thing they want.

If you dont want to do that, then I guess you should carry on waiting. I’m trying my best : )

I’m saying the pack can be shared. I can’t share it with you since I don’t “OWN” it. Find yourself a US friend.

Patrick, Unfortunatly I’m down in Malta which has no EU store available.

Therefore I can’t find one person willing to help me out except that guy who is admant he gave the right info but It doesn’t work for me.

Can you please ask some US friend of yours to help me out.

I’m missing the damned EU-US Tornament because of this. Its driving me mad.

Ash, could you ask a friend to help me out please also ?? I’m desperate here.

I’m more than willing to pay anyone who help me. Ash you of all people know I’m genuine.

    I’m lost now….

Right lads, I found a way to get the omega dawn pack.

My wife bit the bullet and logged on to the US store under her name.

She entered her Maltese Visa card details and hey presto the pack was downloading!!!

Just remember to leave the billing address the same address that you registered the account on!

See you all on the battlefield!

    Cheers!

Will this be sorted with an update?

I’m afraid there isn’t much news. We don’t think this will be fixed with an update.

In my last message, I was just copying and pasting what Patrick was saying about him having the pack, in response to his message.

I still don’t have the pack, and even though I waste a ton of money on games, (31) Im still not going to buy a new copy of Warhawk when it just means i’ll have to throw the perfectly fine US copy away… I don’t like waste…

So after all this time.. Nothing, I knew they wouldn’t listen. We were too few in number for them to actually do anything about it.

But i can’t really blame them.

Ash. Go on a forum and find someone with the US pack and ask if they’ll share it with you. it’s very simple. They change their password, you sign in to their account, you go the psn store and download the patch. You keep their account, and you play warhawk. It works perfectly well.

I expect I will have to do this with the next pack – Broken Mirror.

Hey, keeping with patrick’s idea, does anybody have the US version of the booster? I am willing to share my EU version…

    on March 24, 2008 12:00 pm

Hi all. I’m afraid we’re out of luck.

    “I know I know…

I have looked into this and there is unfortunately not a whole lot I can do for you or the other players that have contacted me.

Not sure what your specific circumstances are but I know that some players around the world have imported Warhawk from SCEA and they don’t have access to a PS Store in their region or in some cases, don’t have a credit card that will work on the US store.

Again, I wish there was something that I could do to directly help this but it is totally out of my control :-(”

That’s from Dylan Jobe, and it looks like you’ll have the same problem with the next pack.

I have the UK disc version of the game but I am in the US with a US console. I bought, downloaded and installed both packs from the US store last night, but they are not available when I start up the game.

Any news on a fix for this??

  84. Patrick Steen
    on April 20, 2008 5:10 am

No fix Matt. Sorry. You can contact Sony for a refund.
