Nokia’s N-gage Mobile Gaming Service Delayed Again

Nokia has pushed back the release date of their long awaited second attempt to launch into the mobile gaming market with their N-gage service. Delays in testing are being blamed for the delay.
N-gage’s face lift was officially announced back in August and we were told the service would go live in November. November rolled around and the release date was pushed back to December. It has now been delayed again into “early 2008.
The new service from Nokia will include games as well as music and file sharing when it eventually goes live. MOSH, a file sharing application created by Nokia, is still currently in beta but will be heavily integrated into the new N-gage service.
Mobile games developers have been calling out for a unified platform to develop for on mobile devices and N-gage could be the first real challenge to Java. When combined with the new hardware acceleration enhancements being produced by companies such as Symbian, the most wildly used mobile operating system, faster CPUs and even GPUs in phones, we could begin to see mobile games becoming much more predominant over the coming year.
