Xbox 360 Finally Making a Profit
by John Kershaw on January 26, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Since the launch of the Xbox 360, Microsoft’s Entertainment & Devices Division has seen nothing but losses. All that is now changing as they have announced a profit for the second quarter in a row.
Microsoft cite strong hardware sales and a solid release of triple-A titles, such as Halo 3 and Mass Effect, for the profit. An operational income of $524 million has been reported for the last 6 months of 2007, with the majority of that coming in the run up to Christmas.
This now leaves the PS3 as the only current-gen console to be losing money for its parent company, a fact analysts have said won’t be changing until “late 2009”.
Incidentally Nintendo have been swimming in gold in recent years due to the Wii being profitable since day one.
