Rockstar Now Claims That PS3 and 360 Versions of GTA IV Are “Neck and Neck”
by Roly Reyes on January 27, 2008 at 1:50 pm

Can you tell the 360 and PS3 versions of GTAIV apart?
You may recall Jeronimo Barrera, Vice President of Product Development at Rockstar, saying:
“It’s really no surprise to anybody that the PS3 was definitely a contributing factor to [the delay].”
Although, with the extra development time granted between the October 2007 release date and the recently announced April 29th, 2008 ship date, it appears that they have really pulled it together, and now go as far as to say that both versions are identical (sans the 360 exclusive DLC).
“Now, we’re neck and neck. That’s not an issue anymore. But back then that was something we were taking into account.” said by Barrera.
He further clarified that PS3 owners out there, all 9.43 million, can rest easy knowing that you’re not going to be receiving a crippled version of their favorite game from last-gen.

The fact that he has to clarify that “PS3 owners can rest easy knowing they’re not going to be receiving crippled versions” makes me worry …
on January 28, 2008 6:29 am
The only worrying thing about this is that they haven’t showed the PS3 version to a single soul yet. Shane on last weeks 1up Yours podcast even said it was a little concerning and he’s as big a PS3 supporter as they come.

Why is it that the 360 is getting downloadable content but the PS3 is not, they both have hard drives capable of saving the addon stuff. I don’t see why they don’t do it for both.

Wes: The exclusive DLC for the Xbox 360 is the result of a monetary agreement between Microsoft and Rockstar.
on January 28, 2008 11:55 am
@Wes
Both PS3 and X360 are getting download content, the X360 is getting some exclusive content. Of course you will still have to pay for it, so in my eyes it’s not a big deal.

I can’t wait until the PC version comes out… in 2009+ :D /waits
on January 28, 2008 2:44 pm
I am excited for the ps3 version since I’m about to buy one.
on January 28, 2008 7:57 pm
so that means the GTA4 version is actually dumbed down so that the 360’s without greater-than-DVD storage and without hard drives can run the game.
that drives me insane.
And i heard that the “exclusive content” that 360 owners can get is actually already available on the PS3 version since it can already fit on blue-ray.
guess not.
=/
dumbing down sucks.

why are uninformed retarded like “m$sucks” allowed to post?
Classic fanboy regurgitation of GARBAGE. Everything you just said was a total lie. What a moron.
on January 29, 2008 4:52 pm
M$ sucks, you are right, its quite simple to understand they had to tweak down everything for it to fit on a DVD, compared to a BD. People like “NutMan” cant comprehend the simple thought process that is need to understand this. Thats to bad Microsoft didn’t fully support HD-DVD, that way they both would have better/more content on in the game from the start.
on January 29, 2008 5:41 pm
M$…
Now let me get this straight, you’re mad that GTA4 was dumbed down to fit on a 360 DVD? Shouldn’t 360 owner be mad that a game which was ready on their platform LAST YEAR
on January 29, 2008 5:45 pm
(whoops, hit enter too soon)
…had to wait until the PS3 version could actually catch up and be made to run the same as the 360 version? Stop making up information contrary to the facts, and just be glad that the PS3 version can run just as fast and pretty as its 360 counterpart could several months ago.
on January 29, 2008 6:36 pm
Yeah fanboys like that are extremely aggrovating, especially when they talk down on stuff using inaccurate bull like that. I’m glad both versions are supposed to be the same though, I’m sick of hearing all the fanboys argue over which version is better.

From who I’ve spoken to, having Blu-ray is helpful because you don’t have to worry about storage anymore, so you don’t have to take shortcuts or put money into this area.
However, there’s plenty of life in DVD yet with compression improved, and the availability of HDD’s for DLC to take the heat of the disc.
I doubt GTA has been skimped. Compression has just improved, and some of it will have been moved to download.
on January 29, 2008 9:43 pm
Any time you get more space is good, right? I was under the impression though that some of that extra space is used up because developers use it to insert redundant information to help combat the Blu Ray’s longer load times and seek times.
on January 30, 2008 6:37 am
Krispy: You’ve been misled. Seek times on a single-layer blu-ray disc are slightly slower than a single layer DVD. However, seek times on a single-layer Blu-ray are faster than a double layer DVD. There aren’t many single-layer DVD games anymore.
Plus, Blu-ray seek times are consistent over the disc, whereas they fluctuate on a DVD (depending where the content is on the disc).
The only title that I’m aware that has been confirmed to duplicate data for loading is the open-world Oblivion. Many games rely on the PS3’s HDD to eradicate load times.

It’s still a cell shaded game.

i own a ps3 and xbox 360 and i reserved it for ps3 because i thought they had me expierience with the playstation because the other GTA’s were exclusives for the playstation and i thought the playstation 3 has better graphics, and power in general

for me the reason for getting gta:iv for the ps3 is simple: all of my other gta games are on the PS.
im just so sick of all the fanboy arguements, and tired of people posting false stats to make their console look better.
ill have to admit that i am a sony lover. HOWEVER, i can openly admit that any worthwhile online game (including multi-platform games) i will buy on 360 (which i will purchase next year). this is the main reason why i haven’t even bought cod4 and rsv2 for my ps3. i know that both will be more be more fun online on the 360.
as for the DVD vs BD arguement: more space gives more freedom to developers. i don’t know if R* will actually take the initiative to add more details to the ps3 version of the game, or if they have taken the large ps3 game and toned it down for the 360.
lastly, i know that MS has exclusive DLC which was a multi-million dollar deal, but what good is that if MS is in turn just going to charge the gamers? sonner or later, the stuff will end up on the ps3 version and/or youtube/veoh/toudu/youku/megavideo/etc.
just my $0.02
