Guerrilla Speaks: Killzone 2 Should Meet Target Movie

by Patrick Steen on January 29, 2008 at 11:26 am

killzone2developerms-copy.jpg

The Killzone forums have awakened and a Guerrilla developer answers questions where he can. Killzone 2 should get very close to their target movie and in some ways will exceed it.

The rumour merchant Surfer Girl lets it slip that Killzone 2 won’t just be the “biggest multimedia project in Dutch history“, but will be the most expensive videogame at a whopping $60 million. This figure hardly seems worth it. A very dubitable rumour.

Surfer Girl continues to muse:

A nice portion of the team at studio Cambridge is assisting in development. To top this off the game may be pretty but it’s barely mediocre and past the point of no return.

The September release date floating around will without doubt be missed if Guerrilla sticks to their intention of not releasing the game until its done which will be early next year.

It’s not surprising that Guerrilla should be having, since they’ve set their sights so high. Will they meet September without jeopardising the quality of the title? This is a dilemma all developers face.

Nonetheless, Surfer Girl isn’t the only one speaking up. Guerrilla developer EON speaks to the fans:

I think there are certain things in the 2005 target movie that are easy to do in a movie but rather harder to do in a game.

In general I’d say that we exceeded it in certain areas and either met or came damn close to meeting the rest of it.

This should restore some faith, especially when the cooperation with other Sony studios is so high:

Suffice it to say that there is a definite spirit of cooperation between studios within the Sony family. We help each other out to achieve our goals and to get the very best out of the PS3’s architecture.

I could give you a long spiel about Corporate strategy and our position within the Sony Family, but it’s easiest to say that we are lucky enough to work with both SCEE and SCEA closely. We have cordial relations with SCEJ too.

Whatever the state of the game, I’m sure we’ll find out more about it at this year’s GDC.

Too much Monarky. Poor Insomniac – they out put a game every year – sure they’d love more money!

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Insomniac is not owned by Sony, so they are not in a position to receive such funs outside of publishing and marketing costs from Sony. It’s not like Sony chose to give the money to Guerrilla instead of Insomniac. Insomniac has been in a position where Sony would gladly take them on as first party for years now, but they have refused, choosing their independence instead (while still receiving plenty of support from Sony via other means).

Basically, the SurferGirl rumor is BS.
