Final Fantasy XIII, Gears of War 2, Motorstorm 2, Alan Wake at GDC 2008?

by Patrick Steen on February 3, 2008 at 9:33 am

final-fantasy-xiii-01-copgdcrumours.jpg What games will be at GDC 2008? The infamous Surfer Girl says three of the above titles will be there, along with four more “definites”. We can confirm six others.

In a response to a poster who asks what games will be at GDC this year, Surfer Girl says “YES” to seven games. These games are MotorStorm 2, Alan Wake, Too Human, InFamous, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2 and Gears of War 2.

There are three other games that might possibly make it to the event: SOCOM PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4, and WipEout HD.

Unlike last year, Sony and Nintendo won’t be having keynote presentations, so it might be wishful thinking to expect anything on the scale of Sony’s reveal of Home and LittleBigPlanet.

On the other hand, there is a Microsoft day booked for Tuesday, along with an hour long Microsoft keynote. Big things could be coming from the Xbox camp.

What games can we confirm for GDC? Mercenaries 2, Far Cry 2, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and Battlefield: Bad Company.

In addition to these, Square Enix will be presenting their Final Fantasy XIII engine, and three big Fable 2 secrets will be revealed. You heard it here first.

Make sure to come to Ripten for all of your GDC coverage.

*Update* -  Surfer Girl has since retracted her predictions, blaming sleep deprivation for her original outburst.  Please read about this here, along with further titbits on what will be at GDC’08.

So Mercs 2 gets an official delay annoucement and then gets touted at GDC? Pandemic is a tease.

Touted not so much, but they will be exploring their engine in a tutorial, which will mainly look at the game’s destructive environment.

Kyle: Look to the left of the title. ;)

I’m not surprised that Sony won’t have a keynote speech because at most of the events last year they were showing games that would be coming out in 08. Microsoft NEEDS to have a keynote as no one has any idea what is going to be on the system this year. I’m interested just by the fact that they basically have no first party, hell their only franchise left that hasn’t put out a game is Fable.

A more in depth look at the engine would be nice. That was a major attraction for me the first time round.

Whether the public will be able to see the presentation is another matter…We’ll hopefully let you know.

mmmm…Santos, let’s look at what 360 games are coming out this year:

    Confirmed:
    Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
    Battlefield Bad Company
    Frontlines: Fuel of War (Exclusive)
    Mercenaries 2: WiF
    Dark Sector
    Devil May Cry 4
    Splinter Cell Conviction (Exclusive)
Grand Theft Auto 4 (with exclusive DLC)
    Condemned 2: Bloodshot
    Fallout 3
    Prototype
    Boderlands
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Dark Athena
    Dead Space
    Saints Row 2
    Army of Two
    Resident Evil 5
    Tom Clancy’s EndWar

    Posibilities:
    Gears of War 2: Exclusive
    Alan Wake: Exclusive
    Fable 2: Exclusive

    Now let’s look at PS3:
    Killzone 2-Exclusive
    Resistance 2-Exclusive
    Haze-Exclusive
Grand Theft Auto 4 (No mission DLC)
    Resident Evil 5
    Metal Gear Solid 4: GotP-(Exclusive?)
(And the games listed above that do not have ‘exclusive’ to the side’. However you need to keep in mind that usually on multi-platform games the 360 version always gets higher reviews.

Alright now say it’s gonna be a bad year for 360….

I really hope they can give us more updates on Final Fantasy XIII. I do anything to get my hands on a possible demo.

Well she was wrong about MotorStorm 2, Alan Wake, InFamous and Killzone 2. 3/7 makes it look like guess work to me.
