Duke Nukem Forever Confirmed for 2008 Release *update*

Looks like Duke Nukem is finally going to be released this year. After 12 years and several delays, the Dallas Business Journal is reporting that 3D Realms President Scott Miller has confirmed a 2008 release for the game.

And although Miller says the game will be released in 2008, he added that the game might be delayed further – but only a little.

“We may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we’re on target this time.”

Well, I’ll believe it when I see it on the store shelf.

In addition to confirming a release this year, Miller has essentially said that the game will be released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

“We haven’t formally announced any platforms for DNF, but, of course hitting the big three makes the most sense (PC, PS3, 360),”

In the article, Miller goes on to confirm downloadable content for the 360 as well. So fans can get their Duke in two flavors: New and Classic.

Miller also confirmed the existence of a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade version of Duke Nukem 3D, which will feature on-line multiplayer support, Xbox Live achievements, on-line score boards, and a co-op mode.

“We’re really excited about bringing classic Duke to the 360,” said Miller during an interview. “We’re talking to Microsoft about getting a release slot sometime this year.”

Whether or not Miller will stick to his word remains to be seen, but his confidence in a 2008 release should come as a comfort to gamers longing for a return to the days of Duke.

UPDATE: Shacknews is now reporting that no platforms or release dates have been confirmed by 3d Realms, but that more information will be available today.
