According to the January NPD numbers, the PS3 outperformed expectations and did extremely well in sales, outselling the Xbox 360 in the United States for the first month ever.
Nintendo’s two systems, the Wii and DS, both underperformed, even though the Wii overall sold better than the PS3 in January.
In terms of software, Activision’s Call of Duty 4 blew the doors off of sales for another month, with 330,900 units sold in January. The Wii version of Guitar Hero 3 also sold extremely well, selling 239,600 units bundled with the guitar peripheral.

Microsoft is saying it was because of hardware shortages due to the incredible holiday sales. I personally have reason to believe them because finding an Elite was a complete whore.

@ LC
They all work when you buy them… for a while. Hopefully from here on out we’ll be hearing a lot less reports of RROD due to the improved internal configurations.
