InstantAction To Aid In Your Procrastination

InstantAction

General Manager Andy Yang took us on a tour of InstantAction, a web-based console by GarageGames with the goal to “kill global productivity.” In addition to meeting up with pals off of your dynamic friends list, which says who is online and what they’re up to, you can also grab a hyperlink directly to your party and invite friends via your preferred instant messaging client.

The goal is to get people together quickly for those 10-15 minute sessions at work. None of the games require a huge investment of time, but of course, how long you can put off that next big assignment is up to you.

Marble Blast, which you may recognize from XBLA, makes an appearance with exclusive multiplayer modes. I zoomed around for a while collecting gems and finding the power-up to turn huge so I could knock the other marbles off the course.

A new game from Wideload called Cyclomite tasks players with collecting color-coded meteors. Single players have to spin their machine, making sure the meteors are absorbed by the correct colored segment, but a party of up to four can tackle co-op mode where each person controls their own colored segment. The difficulty ramps up, of course, so while one or two colors of meteors may trickle towards the center of the screen at first, soon you’ll be ringed with five and have lots of spinning to do.

All the games are free to play to a point, with extra marble skins, for example, or premium services such as VOIP costing extra. Premium service for any MMO titles (they have at least one in the works) might be subscription based, but whether it’s a subscription or a microtransaction, all your real money will be converted into Action tokens first so you can add extras to any game on the service easily.

Yang told us that productivity at their own company seems to go down with each release of a new game on their private beta, so we wish them good luck getting their upcoming public beta rolling!
