NCAA 09: Arkansas’s Darren McFadden Named Xbox 360 Cover Athlete

EA has announced the University of Arkansas star running back, Darren McFadden, as one of four athletes set to appear on the cover of NCAA Football 09 — EA’s latest edition of videogame collegiate brand football.

McFadden will grace the cover of the Xbox 360 version, while the PS3 version will have its next gen cover athlete revealed on April 24th, just in time for the NFL Draft hysteria. EA will then wrap up the Sony related covers by announcing the PS2 and PSP versions in May.

“These four athletes represent the best and brightest of college football, but our selections aren’t just about Heisman candidates and All Americans,” says Sr. director of marketing for EA SPORTS Tom Goedde. “They represent the spirit and passion of the sport in the same way EA SPORTS video games do.”

What about the Nintendo Wii you ask? In what can be considered as marketing genius, or simply more fuel for the “Wii is for kids” debate, the Wii version of NCAA 09 will not feature an athlete at all. Instead, EA will give that honor to the winner of their “NCAA Football 09 Cover Mascot Challenge”.

If you are dying to find out whether your teams favorite mascot gets the nod, you can do so on March 18th by visiting the official NCAA Football 09 website.
