PS3 Updates to BD-Live: One Feature Left Out
by Roly Reyes on March 26, 2008 at 6:03 pm

The latest PS3 firmware update brings the Playstation 3 up to version 2.20, adding further functionality to the victor of the latest format war; Blu-Ray. But Sony also left out the ability to copy a SD version of a Blu-Ray movie to your PSP for portable watching. Details after the break.
Even so, it’s not really that big of a deal, get a laptop and just shove a DVD in there and you’ll be happy. Although, they promise that this feature will be on the way soon.
The Playstation 3 is now fully BD-Live compatible. This includes abilities to access downloadable video, ringtones, games, and more content straight from the Blu-ray disc. “BD-LIVE promises to offer PS3 users the ultimate interactive film experience.” And it will begin to do so when The 6th Day and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story hit the shelves on April 8th.
While BD-Live was the headliner of this update, it’s not the only feature included. Resume Play has been added, which means that your PS3 will resume from the point you left off watching your DVD/Blu-Ray, even if it has been removed inbetween play throughs. The PSP’s remote control compatibilty with the PS3 has been improved; larger DivX and WMV files will now be playable; and you can now improve your DVD experience with mosquito noise reduction.
So, although v2.20 left out a crucial update that consumers were waiting for, this is certainly a welcome update and knowing Sony, it shouldn’t be too long ’til the next one.

cool, I guess I’ll go and update the thing before I throw in dark sector, I sure hope it’s as good as the development time was long…..

^From what I hear, you’re going to be disappointed.
Although these features are nice, I just want in-game XMB and Home. Every time I hear update my heart skips a little, but yet again I feel let down.
Sony should totally release Home and in game XMB without telling anyone, just so it’ll be a nice surprise.

well, I have to say that Dark Sector was actually pretty fun…I am kind of more a movie guy than a gamer though and the story is pretty top notch. the 3rd person setup is pretty well thought out, similar to gears of war.

Maybe I’ll give it a try then. I think that after seeing the original concept trailer the final product disappointed me a little. The original trailer looked like a stealth action game, which is a genre I love. I hate how it turned into run and gun (I don’t usually mind that, but it seems like we’re getting flooded with that genre).

Like I said before, I am a movie guy. my decisions on games are based on story first. I actually love watching a game being played
more than playing the game itself. BUT! I am actually playing this game, the controls aren’t confusing, the game looks pretty good and runs very nicely.
a little on the dark side, I have to turn up the brightness in the game pretty high to see in real dark areas, but I am running it on a projector, so an lcd or crt
might be different, the surround sound is really good. alot of atmosphere. I think you will love the glaive, what a great weapon. heck you can do anything with it! I have skull-capped enemy’s with the thing! It actually plays like a hybrid stealth/action game. there are annoyances, but, all in all a pretty great game with a really great story and weapon.
