MGO Beta Free Download For All Europeans: No Pre-Order Needed
by Patrick Steen on April 11, 2008

Well here’s some great news for the often forgotten Europeans. Although North American’s must pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4 to access the Metal Gear Online Beta, Europeans will be able to download the Beta for free, and with no need for a code. Follow the jump for more information.
In reporting new information on the Playstation Store relaunch and its included content, there was a nugget of information that would be easily overlooked if it wasn’t spelled out. Sony Europe confirmed that the Metal Gear Online Beta would be available on April 17th, but we presumed this would only be for thos who pre-ordered.
We then realised that, as of yet, there were no reports of Beta Codes in Europe. Konami thus made things all the clearer today, saying that the “Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta will be available as a free download on the Playstation Store from April 17th until May 6th.” The Beta itself will begin on April 21st (plenty of time to get hold of this presumably very popular download) and end on May 6th.
The beta phase features two maps, four gameplay modes, the SOP System that encourages up to 16 players to team up and share information, and deep skill-customization. Also equipped with auto-matching and training modes, the game offers players a sneak peak of this totally new approach to console-based competitive gaming.
Bring on the Metal Gear Online Beta for all Europeans (and hopefully others in the Pal region, including Australia) and those North Americans who were clever enough to pre-order. Take that Chad!

I never played the MSG series, I pre-ordered it to get the dvd that brings people like me up to date and got that code I guess for the on-line beta. Does anyone
have a link for a good resource about the story and characters? the dvd is good but, it still assumes to much. is solid snake old because he is a clone? that is the impression the dvd gave.
are all the “snakes” cloned by the same organization? different? or disparate factions of one org?

Madpuppy: I suggest you play the series. At least MGS2 and 3.

These are ps2 titles, right? The only playstation I have is the 40
gig PS3, I was a PC gamer before I bought an Xbox originally. and I never owned a PS2.
maybe I should borrow one from a friend and play then through….

That really is a shame madpuppy. I believe you can download MGS1 from the PSStore - either in the US, or Japan.
The stories run in this chronology: MGS3, MGS1, MGS2, MGS4.
It’s not a simple game to play, though I know they’ve simplified the controls a lot and even made it more action orientated. These previous games will be a good training ground. Oh and don’t think MGO will be a good gage of how MGS4 itself will be.
And I don’t think it’s been revealed why exactly Snake has prematurly aged - I expect that’s part of MGS4’s story.

pick up a ps2 madpuppy, there dirt cheap.

Aye, play MGS - and then sell the PS2 for a similar price to what you bought it for. I expect in the end you’ll pay less than it would have cost to buy MGS2 and MGS3 when they came out.

Just created a European account and downloaded the beta (I’m in the US). Didn’t want to pre-order the game because I get a huge discount from GameFly. They really should have made it an open beta for all regions. UP YOURS, KONAMI!

THX You won’t be able to play it. Your IP will be blocked.

Yes you’ll have to wait. Before then you will have to download a patch, and set up Konami ID’s.
