I think that is exactly what the kicking trigger should be, instead of making some specific controller action having it do it to things that are kickable, ammo boxes, opponents, kittens....

BunnyRabbit2,

I wasn't saying I don't like the kicking mechanic, because I do actually like it. What I don't like is the fact that I have to stare at the floor to use it. I think it should instead be context sensitive so that if I'm standing over a downed opponent or ammo box, it knows that I want to kick it instead of flail wildly at the air a foot in front of me as if I'm apparently pissed off at oxygen and trying to kill it. Believe me, no one likes a boot to the face as much as I do... when I'm delivering the boot and it's someone else's face, mind you.

I completely agree with all of your review bar one bit. The kicking mechanism is not completely broken. Although it can be frustrating to end up kicking instead of slicing, it does sometimes allow you to deliver the old "boot in the face" to a downed enemy, something I have always wanted in a game.

Another great thing about this game is the QTEs. They are used intelligently (not something I can say about Viking or God of War: Chains of Olympus) and are usually very easy to pull of, not making them boring or intrusive.

Also, this has to be one of the best reviews I have ever read. It is both funny and informative. I think I shall be reading much more of Ripten.

I actually own both machines, I love the 360 controller, it is a shame that the only company out there that sells an Almost exact copy of the 360 controller for the playstation 3 is only sold in Australia. (cannot find the link right now) and it is wired.
I bought the game for the PS3 because of a recommendation from
friends and the guys at gamestop...

I totally will, Jon... I totally will.

And madpuppy, though this may be too late and not help you at all, the 360 controller is much more suited to and comfortable for adult hands.

Haha....

"Dark Sector gives you more flying head than Paris Hilton on an airplane" - Ripten.com

We should contact them and see if they want to use that quote.

You actually gave it a better score than most other reviewers!

I really Like Dark Sector (still playing it) The story really starts off interesting, I am saddened that they did not develop the story properly, It could have been a franchise if they filled in the blanks and gave the player more information.
All the reviews I have read makes it sound like the story ends like a poorly executed episode of the X-files. That is a real shame. As for the control issues, you are right about the looking down to kick setup, it is more harmful in the long run
and kind of looses the fluidity
of action, and when you are being attacked by multiple of the infected (and I have relatively large hands) the PS3 gamepad is so small and I am still getting acclimated to using one for games rather than a KB/mouse. I tend to look down accidentally and start kicking rather than hacking with the glaive. (god, I'm getting old)
also, Hayden being sluggish at times is something I didn't encounter till after the level with the robot. it almost seems like it was done on purpose, but, probably not, It is just too damned annoying. besides that you are correct, the game is a blast. If they made a sequel, tied up the loose ends,
focused on the story more and changed the kick control issue. I would get it. I would love to
see Hayden and his glaive in different scenarios and locations, imagine throwing the glaive in different locations around the globe.
or maybe having a number of bio-metallic weapons to scroll through that hayden could choose from, the character of hayen is really great and Having him in new situations with a more rounded story would be a truly enjoyable experience.
