Germany Mulls Turning Off Game Demos During School Hours

In an apparent effort to crack down on truancy from schools, Hamburg state interior minister Udo Nagel is thinking about forcing retailers to turn off demo pods during school hours.
This recommendation is one of 22 measures designed to tackle juvenile delinquency. The mind boggles at what the other 21 might be.
“Truancy can be the beginning of a criminal career and that’s why we have to intervene,” said Nagel in national newspaper Welt am Sonntag. “Not every truant becomes criminal, but criminals skipped school at one time or another.”
Leaving this blatant generalization aside, someone seems to have missed a trick. Either these demo pods are a hotbed for truant youth, in which case it will be very easy to round up the muppets and cart them back to school, or it’s a load of hot air.
Interior ministers for all of Germany’s states are meeting to discuss this proposal, among others, in Brandenburg later this week. In the meantime, you can also download demos from the internet. Quick, someone time-lock it!
