I think home will cut it. The thing that attracted me was the ability to stream video content to a virtual TV so that every one can watch. That's awesome. Also the room of the trophies are located looked pretty sweet.

Yea, Sony is slowly moving towards a streamlined service just like XBL. They got a simple distributional system (the store), and a universal login (the PSN username). "Home" is gonna be the friend making service made interactive. The PSN right now is 1000x better than what they had with the PS2, where there was no store, and each game had their own username, and password (was annoying remembering and creating an account for each one).

Now Konami ID is going in the opposite direction. MGO should use the god damn PSN Username. And guess what, the Konami ID is useless, its the Game ID is what is need. So I have to make a Konami ID just to make a Game ID. WTF!?!?! Why make a new account, and split the communities (konami community, and the PSN community). Though the might bring it back together with Home.

I think the same thing is gonna happen with Rockstar's social club. We already made a new account, but the purpose of it is to track purchased content from Amazon Music Store, and to track stats. At least, R* didnt make the account making a time consuming process.

That's my rant.

You know, KTR, maybe you're right, i'll have to check out the new store update on my PS3. I just remember thinking that the PSN didn't "feel" streamlined, didn't "feel" intuitive and accessible.

And you know the most tellng difference is that i don't think its pushed and promoted confidently like Microsoft pushes and promotes XBL and Apple shows its love for itunes. Microsoft really believes in XBL. Its almost like sony is unsure, testing the waters, wading their way into online gaming, while it seems like microsoft dove in a while ago.

Maybe when Home shows up this will all change.

In my opinion, I would say that PSN is streamlined too (up till the Krap Konami ID). As long as an universal login for all multiplayer games are used, and a simple (and solid) distributional system is implement, its pretty much streamlined. Everything else is an extra.

for you personally, LC, but not in general. not for most people, either. i think most would prefer a streamlined, slick online experience for less than five bucks a year, than a clunky, intimidating one for no money.

totally agree with Jonathan's cooment ^^ - also could u imagine Sony allowing one of there exclusive franchise characters to appear in a modded version of a game on the 360 (ala master chief example in this article), i think not!

Here is a good article regarding open vs. closed distribution (it's an old article, but the concept applies to XBL): http://democracyinmedia.typepad.com/my_weblog/2005/05/open_vs_closed_.html

All in all, in an Open network (PSN) the consumer can read (download) and write (upload, in this case with UT3, uploading user creative mods), while in a Closed network (XBL) the consumer can only read (download).

But overall it wins, don't you think? It streamlines online gaming and makes it more accessible. so for the general populace, xbox live is chosen. like itunes for downloadable music.

This is where XBL fails. Its closed network blocks the ability of user created content, and blocks the ability to cross-multiplayer.

I couldn't agree more. And it's not Epic's fault at all, it's Microsoft's.

Regarding the split screen thing, someone mentioned the PS3 version getting split screen in a patch in the N4G comments. But treat that for what it is: an unsubstantiated comment on the internet.

I would of wanted split screen on my PS3 version.....hmm..... could there be a mod for that??, probably not. I still think without the mods feature its basically a limp version of the game.
