MGO Beta Code – Last 3 Digits Go Stealth?

by John Kershaw on April 19, 2008 at 2:24 pm

mgobetatitleimage.jpg

The long awaited beta for Metal Gear Online is finally upon us, but for some unfortunate people the codes supplied to access the beta are invalid.

Some people in America who pre-ordered MGS4 to get in the MGO beta have found the expected 12 digit download code to have the last few digits missing, presumed hiding under a cardboard box.

Upon entering the shorter code, the helpless player is treated to an error message and not much help. A quick scout around the forums and blogs swarming with angry Metal Gear fans found one possible solution, sending an email to Konami support.

The response PS3Blog.net got gave a few more instructions:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for contacting Konami Support. If your code is appearing with only 9 or 11 digits, then this is incorrect.

Please copy your code exactly as it appears on your voucher in your reply to this email. We’re very sorry for this inconvenience and we will do our best to rectify the situation in time for the Beta start.

Regards,

Konami Customer Support

So, to get a working code, send an email to kdeussupport@konami.com giving the 9 digit number.

No solid figures on the quantity of incorrect codes have emerged yet, but from the frequency of complaints showing up around the net, it looks to be a rather substantial number.

When you do actually get your code and can download the Beta, you might be unable to download a patch for the game, nor will you be able to set up your Konami ID/Game ID since their servers are being battered.  Hopefully Konami will get this all sorted in time for April 21st when the Beta begins.

    Yup,

    This happened to me.

It sucks. I contacted support, I’ve been waiting for a couple days now.

This is a huge foul up. They should fire the marketing firm who was in charge if this printed marterial

heck! I didn’t even try the code I got, I wonder if it works?

Oh well, It really doesn’t matter to me,
I really wish that Sony would support more audio and video codecs. It really is annoying to run mediatomb and have one out of all my videos and
    none of my mp3’s play.

As far as I can tell, they’re turning off the servers til Tuesday at 3, and extending the beta til May 11th.

Konami JUST updated their japanese site. I attempted to translate it, but it’s realllly scretchy:

This time, in you to participate “METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE β” ( 2008-04-21 concerning report and the future correspondence regarding 14:20 ) connected obstacles, thank you truly. Presently as for “METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE β”, being able to offer normal service it has become the circumstance which is not depending upon the access centralization from the entire world. Especially, serious obstacle occurs e.g., after 2008.04.21 07:00 where the beta test at European area is started, it cannot draw up the prayer. You considered this circumstance, one time discontinued the beta test execution other than Japan, for Japan after stability work of service was verified, reopening the test at each area you solved, it does. As has done applying annoyance very much, you say to apologize deeply, cooperation to the beta test, we ask to everyone who has received participation. Furthermore, you modify beta test execution schedule attendant upon the obstacle occurrence of beta test start beginning. Concerning future schedule, please verify description below. Beta test discontinuance other than Japan: 2008.04.21 15:00 execution schedule server maintenance: Undecided (changing to 2008.04.22 15:00, we communicate.) Beta test end day: 2008.05.06 24:00 to 2008.05.11 24:00 When there is modification in schedule and the like, at this site we communicate again.
