Mirror’s Edge Gameplay Video
by Roly Reyes on May 7, 2008

Just concept art– but check below for gameplay footage.
Yesterday, at Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe’s Playstation Day Thingy, DICE showed off the first bit of real-time gameplay from Mirror’s Edge.
The best way to describe it I think would be as a first person take on the Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed school of platforming, Freerunning/Parkour, if you will.
While playing through Assassin’s Creed, it wasn’t the story or the annoying lack of variety in objectives that kept me playing through until the end. It was the paradigm-shifting evolution in platforming that it introduced. The feeling of freedom by virtue of really being able to go anywhere and climb anything within the set space that was given to me is something that even Grand Theft Auto IV isn’t capable of.
The footage released yesterday, found here in HD, unequivocally put it near the top of my most anticipated games of the year.
As stated in the video, it’s all real-time and all gameplay. It looks so seamless and functional that the wait for a demo or even a solid release date is pretty unbearable. Thus far, all we have is a late ’08 guesstimation for PC, PS3, and 360.
Thanks to Kotaku for the concept art.

Yeah.. great.. now how about some REAL real gameplay footage, please? I’m so sick of this bullshit…

This game does not appeal me. Right off the bat, you can tell this game is gonna have a weird story line, just like the sci-fi of Assassin’s Creed. Why are you running on top of building, shooting random security people…in a city which is damn clean, and looks free from crime. FAIL.

David: Why do you think this isn’t ingame, out of interest?
KTR: Fail? This game looks absolutely gorgeous, with an original artstyle that’s so lacking in games these days. In addition to introducting FP parkour, what isn’t there to love?
It’s gonna have a “weird storyline”? - I hope it does, rather than the cooky cutter storylines we’re used to.
Why do you fight a big Panda in Tekken? Because it’s a game. Why do parkour? Because it’s bloody fun. I expect the people won’t be random. And if you want them to spoil their original colour pallette with dirt to make it look like the rest of these games then that would be a damn shame. Moreover, it could be set in Singapore.
This game doesn’t appeal to you, because it’s out of your comfort zone - you don’t understand it and you have no idea what it’s going to be like. Hopefully, they’ll surprise us all.

Well I been reading more about this game, seems like the game is kinda based on Ultra Violet and Aeon Flux, with a hint of Haze (perfect society, no crime…all governed by a huge, power greedy corporation). I guess the game will be good if they can have a huge setting with an immense level of detail, and a lot of interior space. Basically GTA4 or better. But I have my doubts, being that its also on the 360, the devs already has limits on size.

Parkour doesn’t do it for me… not in the slightest.

I think it’s fake because it looks fake. It’s too good. It looks better and smoother, many times over, than the best games on any system. If it actually ends up looking like this
At least it won’t be PC only, so it’ll actually have a chance to sell without being pirated out the ass.

I was watching an old interview video on game trailers about this game, and the dev says this game is NOT open world. And chances are this game might not have multiplayer. Talk about low replayability.

David: From my eyes, although it is clean and smooth, there isn’t much there that isn’t possible. I mean, the textures aren’t super high-res. The only thing that might be improved upon in the trailer is the anti-aliasing and how well it’s running (framrate). But that’s easy to find out…

But if ANYTHING is improved in the trailer over the actual game then.. it’s fake.

O.K. David. It’s fake - it’s not running on their engine, it won’t look like that. What do you want me to say?

Patrick, I think you should stop reporting on new games. Consider a change of industry perhaps, one where douche bags can’t question your every word and call you a liar or even better one where you can cut out there tongues when they do. lol
oh and I think the game looks beautiful and the concept is pretty interesting, I hope there’s more depth to the gameplay then was in assassins creed or any typical action game. love the style of the game though and the music in the trailer is soothing.

I don’t want you to say anything. I was simply saying that I’m tired of these companies doing this. I had my fill with the pre-ps3-launch bs. My frustration was directed at the people (developers) making the claim that this is totally real-time, in-game footage, not you.

This is not CGI (comes no where close) - in fact there are games better looking than this.
