New Sims 2 Expansion Packs for PC, DS

Apparently, EA’s master plan to saturate the world with expansion packs for The Sims 2 isn’t complete. They’ve just announced The Sims 2: Apartment Life for the PC. This will be the 8th EP, not counting the 7 “stuff packs” which only consist of clothing and/or furniture.

This shouldn’t be too big of a surprise though, since the original Sims game had 7 EPs. And for those who like their Sims portable, The Sims 2: Apartment Pets for the DS is also coming out. Both games will be released on August 22nd.

As the title suggests, with The Sims 2: Apartment Life, Sims can experience the joys and sorrows of apartment living. The EP introduces new social networks and character types, a new reputation meter, and of course, furniture. Meanwhile, The Sims 2: Apartment Pets takes apartment living a step further with – you guessed it, pets. I’m not sure how much different this will be from The Sims 2: Pets, other than the setting is in an apartment instead of a house. These apartment pets seem a little more spoiled though, since you can buy them hats and shoes. There’s also a cool-sounding minigame in which you can charm a snake by blowing into the DS mic.

Although The Sims 3 is coming out next year, I wonder if EA will continue to churn out more EPs for this game, and if people will continue buying them. Me personally, I stopped at Pets, which was 4th in line.
