Play WoW WotLK Alpha Right Now…Seriously

Welcome to Northrend bitches…
Not sure how long this link will be live, so if you want to download the alpha client of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, and dig into some level 80 death knight action, you may have to move quickly.
First things first, you will need to go here and download the alpha client that best suits your needs. There are US, GB, and DE versions with both Mac and PC options. The default configuration will set the package to install to your desktop.
Secondly, you will need to visit this site to register for a private server account. It is advised that you do not use the same account information that you use for your regular WoW account. Also, you do not need to enter an email, simply click “create account”.
Lastly, find the folder on your desktop (or wherever you decided to install the client) titled “Wrath of the Lich King Alpha” and open it up. Inside you will find a file titled “realmlist.wtf. Open this file up using Notepad and delete everything inside. Paste in only the following line below and hit save.
set realmlist wow-wotkl.kicks-ass.net
After you have done all this, click on the file titled “PlayWoW-WotLK” to launch the game. Log in with you newly created account and enjoy. I would post more screens, but I really need to get back to riding around Northrend on my Deathcharger.

Yes it works. The server is a bit laggy at times, but it does work. No kissing needed, thanks anyway.

Hey i downloaded the biggest pacth…EVER! But it did the mac one instead of eng PC is that what it should (well it says OSX which i think is mac O.O) maybe the link is broke or do u click the mirror

The reason it cant validate game version is because the new patch isnt supported by the private server. You’ll have to wait for the private server to get updated to play the new patch. In the mean time, you can delete the newest patch (8471) and open the game through your WOTLK Alpha folder by double clicking “wow.exe” to play on the old patch. Make sure you dont open the game through the launcher or it will automatically download the new patch.

The site may be getting too much traffic. If you were able to download the alpha client direct from Blizzard then you may just need to keep looking for another private server (or create your own) to access the new content.
We do caution you however that private servers can often be unsafe and many sites out there are designed to steal your WoW account so unless you have prior experience with a private server you may want to steer clear and for the love of Jebus never use your actual account info.
The sure fire way to get up and running is to just turn your own PC into a private server. There are several sites out there that can help you do that.

Haha… there was no realmlist.wtf file in the folder when I downloaded the client. So I copied the one from the original game folder and did what it says on this site. It still doesn’t work. It only starts to download everything again when I click on the Playwow-wotlk.

thank you for this dude.. i tried to get another one off youtube and it had a trojan… luckily my virus scan let me delete the file b4 something bad happened. so far so good with this one. idk if im downloading to right spot but ill find out when its done.
Note to Self: Fix firewall settings next time b4 downloading something else with blizzard downloader.

Well I downloaded it, and it seems to work when I run the exe until the music (that plays when the window opens) finishes after about 15seconds, at which point it stops responding. I’ve tried opening and not clicking anything, pretty much everything, it’s just as soon as the music finishes it crashes.
Any ideas?

In response to everyone that has been trying to access the expansion via the method outlined above on June 10th. There is a good chance that this is no longer working due to the fact it is several months old now.
I do know that it worked at the time and apologize to those who are finding this information no longer of use.
I will look into other options and post on the site again soon. In the mean time, we will be holding a contest soon to give away one key for the official beta so make sure to stay tuned.

Umm… I downloaded the patch and it finished but didn’t do anything it said finish but usually all patches you click “finish” and this one didn’t do anything….. It also said “Your computer appears to be behind a firewall.” what do I do!

The link that you gave to register an account is broken. Whenever i click on it, the web takes a minute to load then says link is broken and offers to google it for me. I accept and none of the results seem to be anything that would register an account for this. Help please?!?!?!
