ut3-for-360-to-feature-split-screen-exclusive-content-and-gow2-preview

ut3tandem2-1.jpg
The 360 version isn’t as far behind the PS3 version as most people thought.

Apparently, to make up for the lack of user-generated content, Epic has thrown in a few exclusive bits to the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III. Oh, and the disc will also contain a sneak peek at Gears of War 2.

The 360 version will offer 5 new maps and 2 new characters not available in the PS3 release, as well as the aforementioned split-screen mode. But maybe you knew that already. What you probably didn’t know, however, is that Cliffy Blaznats will also offer some color commentary on an exclusive, as yet unseen video preview of the upcoming Gears of War 2.

Does this make up for the near infinite possibilities of user-generated content like that found on the PS3 version of UT3? Mark Rein, vice president of the world (and Epic Games), had this to say:

“This is a great title and, with two-player split screen support and some very cool new content, Xbox 360 players should be thrilled with this fantastic version of the game.”

I’ll be the judge of how thrilled I am about your game, thanks. UT3 is set to ship July 7th for the Xbox 360, with a review most likely to follow shortly thereafter.

yo Ripten GoW2 is God of War 2 i think you mean GeoW2

Guy: No, there are many things that happen to share the same initials. FPS = First Person Shooter & Frames Per Second as an example. God of War does not have a ™ on those initials. Still I would of said “Gears 2″ sounds so much better than GoW which sounds like some growth/wart or something.

Anyway, Cliffy B never one to pass on the opportunity to be an attention wh*re. Going to tell us how bigger and badder the game is then proceeds to show us mediocre looking graphics/gameplay. The more I hear about the game the more it sounds like the original Gears with an attempt to shove a decent story into it. Will this be a repeat of Halo 3 where everyone expects so much more and then it under-delivers? Seems like the answer is YES so far.

Anyway, sorry to sound like a hater but it’s what many are thinking I’m just saying it. Also, I will pass on this heavily gimped UT3 version. All those exclusive maps will be re-made by the modders in no time along with the new characters so split-screen is the bonus. Not enough to drop $60 for a game that should of been out when the PS3/PC version was.

I think Epic thinks 360 gamers will take whatever they can get.

Dan go on other forums and you’ll see it alot (i.e. N4G where i saw this article and felt compelled to mention the acronym mix up.)

@ 360fan, i was just making the comment that it get confusing when people talk about GoW2 as gears, when the media began using the acronym of GoW for god of war. So i figured that others with in the same media would know this and alter a similar acronym for another game with the same initials thus GeoW for Gears of War.

    Hi,
Does anybody know if the split-screen is only for 2?

I’ll do anything for a 4-player split-screen (greatly missed except for Halo and COD)

    GOW is Gears for me.

And yes, that game kicks ass!

Hmm, google “g.o.w” and the top result is the official Gears of War site. On the second page there’s a gaming community called Gunners of War (GoW). Other than that, lots of people called Gow but no sign of Kratos. I must admit that I always think of God of War when see GoW cos I’ve played them and not Gears (until 2 days ago that is, dun dun dun, I got a 360, I can have informed, unbiased opinions now :o)

That’s just irrelevant friday info btw, I ain’t arguing :o) Personally I’d go for Gears2/GoW3. Also, it’s along with Unreal so… engines n’all

Maybe it’s referred to GeoW by forum peoples, but not the media. I did a search on N4G and only found one story that refers to Gears of War as GeoW, and that was from Actiontrip.com. Not only have I not seen that site before, but the acronym on their actual page is GoW, and it was only changed to GeoW by the contributor that submitted it to N4G.

The same thing happens with MGS, which is Metal Gear Solid and Microsoft Game Studios. Most people don’t seem to have too hard of a time figuring out what we’re talking about. Please don’t tell us we’ve used the wrong acronym based on what people on forums say. That is unless you also want us to change “the” to “teh” and “Ripten” to “|21þ73n”.

“change “the” to “teh” and “Ripten” to “|21þ73n”.”

Aaaargh noooo, grammar filter overload! (Laughing Out Loud)

then i guess to each there own. i just go by which has come first in my eyes and many others GoW stands for God of War. and your right Metal gear solid and Microsoft game studios have the same acronym, and it gets annoying, but its my pet peeves and i figured that people would realize the order for which things came around and do things that way. but alas no one cares that one was around longer and has claimed that acronym title (first read and written). i guess i’ll have to go around correcting people for the rest of my days….Note read the comments if you wanna hear what people think about GoW and GeoW

Guy Incognito must have put every site with acronyms in a hat and held a drawing to see where I found it. Sorta like how epic put game mechanics in a hat and ripped off windback, very clever. Like Fan, like developer..
