Microsoft E3 Announcement: Spectacular? Desperate? Spectacularly Desperate?
by Tom Hillman on June 13, 2008 at 8:14 pm

A trusted source has stated that Microsoft will announce some pretty spectacular things at this years E3.
The source explained “Let’s put it this way: they’re worried the current line-up can’t carry Q4 for the entire Xbox brand in the core market. You’ll laugh when you see what they’re planning.”
Now that can be taken either one of two ways, the announcement will be laughably bad or you’ll laugh because it’s so freaking awesome.
Here’s what Ripten’s money is on for possible spectacular announcements from Microsoft at E3:
- MS could have an answer to Sony’s currently unreleased Home platform, which may explain why no Spring update was forthcoming this year, although there’s a few other tasty possibilities.
- MS may be announcing motion sensing 360 controller which would be their answer to the Wiimote and Sixaxis — makes sense due to the lack of denial from MS regarding motion controllers.
- MS may be lining up the possible acquisition of Epic Games, let’s see whether “CliffyB”, sorry Cliff Bleszinski will chainsaw that rumour to shreds or not.
Microsoft’s E3 conference is due to take place on the 14th July 2008 at 10.30AM PST.
Only time will tell.

I have my own list:
. They will blow up Sony Headquarters.
.They are replacing Steve Ballmer with Lee Iacocca (probably a good idea)
.buy insomniac studios and piss off all the PS3 owners.

I read about a sega acquisition too, the reality will probably be something far less spectacular then anything being mentioned.
I honestly don’t see the acquisition of epic games as being relevant, what they will get the next unreal exclusive? come on that’s a joke and frankly they have gears of war exclusive so what would be the point? neither of those two games are system sellers or going to bail microsoft out from falling to third.
Nothing sega or epic have on offer is going to carry the xbox brand. Motion control and home gimmicks are not going to save them either.

WOW! Interesting list there mp.

I predict kotor 3 (because I want it so badly), possibly a new 360 sku (seriously, that’s basically a given with MS) and the motion control to be announced, most likely with games to go with it. These games will all be crap.

Well wasn’t there an ex-lucas art’s employee who got laid off and leaked their whole release list for the next couple of years. It turned out bioware was working with lucas arts on a KOTOR MMO

Yeah I saw that story now that you mention it and I seem to have blocked out the part about it being an mmo, what a disaster that would be.
Why is it necessary to turn every good single player rpg into an mmo? They already have a star wars mmo, why they have to ruin the kotor series by doing this?

Starwars Galaxies is complete shit. I remember when it was first released, it was awesome. A lot of stuff needed work but it had so much potential it could have destroyed WoW.
But sony, doing what they do best, f***ed it up. I’d love to see a GOOD starwars mmo that even comes close to achieving what starwars galaxies could have.

I think they have a great lineup for this year, I don’t know why they’d feel the need to do something like this. Oh well, hopefully it’s awesome.

kotor should remain a single player rpg and any star wars mmo should be an entirely separate entity whether developed by bioware or somone else.
To create a star wars mmo and brand it as the next kotor would be a tacky marketing gimmick to rip fans of the kotor series off with an immoral money sink of a genre, it would also be an incredible betrayal to kotor’s intellectual property and to its fans.
As for a good lineup, I rather agree since a number of interesting rpgs are finally going to be coming out too human, infinite undiscovery, fable 2, fallout 3. Still arguably nothing on halo or mgs level for the foreseeable future.
It’s difficult to imagine they could simply buy a big game to replace the halo void that surely will not be filled by gow2 or halo wars or any desperate buyout. These e3 megaton rumors always fall flat, I expect this one too as well.

love the fact the MS only had the motion capture thing (boring) and the new AI interactive construct (which looks great) i must admit im dissapointed with MS although sony have shocked alot of ppl!
