Rumor: MGS5 A Prequel?

In an interview with 1UP.com, Metal Gear Solid 4 assistant producer Ryan Payton mentioned that the next Metal Gear game might just be a prequel.
The interview, which took place a week before the game’s release, has Payton stating, “There are some misunderstandings that this is the final Metal Gear game. But it’s really the final chapter of the Solid Snake story. That’s all.”
While discussing the possibility of a Metal Gear Solid 5, Payton said there is “still a lot of room for filling in the gaps as far as Big Boss is concerned.”
As a big fan of MGS4, I’m happy to hear that this isn’t the end of the series. Big Boss is a very important character and his story is crucial in understanding the complete MGS story. A prequel expanding on Big Boss and his relevance would be great for fans of the series and just might give some fans (like myself) a new understanding of the story.
As far as the timeline goes, who knows when the next Metal Gear will come out? It’s quite possible that it could happen on the PS3, but you never know these days. Here’s hoping we’ll hear something about MGS5 soon.
