Ice Shattered: Diablo 3 Announced
by Chad Lakkis on June 28, 2008 at 6:26 am

So much for a slow transition via the ice hole. Blizzard.com now features a fancy-shmancy flash animation announcing Diablo 3 — ice nowhere to be found. Who knows, maybe they had a good reason for all that frosty goodness.
Perhaps you will be able to ice your enemies with Sub-Zero like swiftness, or perhaps it was nothing more than a marketing attempt which, in the end, appears to have no logical connection to the fire filled reveal that was Diablo 3.
However, while we here at Ripten are a little miffed over the lack of connection between the two, we realize that things could have been worse. The reveal could have given birth to the monstrosity below. Enjoy a glimpse at what could have been after the jump.

Splash intro page aside, the official Diablo 3 webpage looks pretty cool in its own right and will surely have WoW players writing Blizzard asking for gigantic shoulder pads with white glowing tentacles shooting upward from them.

how else do you keep fire on ice?

@mad,
Yes. I should have found a way to work that line into my post.
@LC,
Has nothing to do with fire on ice — what seemed silly is the fact that they did’t follow through with their ice reveal.
I would have been happy if upon hitting the webpage you saw the creature duck his head back into the darkness — screen fades to black, and then they start the fireworks, but the way they just tossed the ice play out the window seemed like too big a disconnect.
