Problems Reported With PS3 2.4 Update
by Andrew Podolsky on July 2, 2008 at 6:17 pm

Less than a day old, Sony has reportedly taken down PS3’s 2.4 Update. Users on the Official Playstation Message Boards have claimed that after installing the update, their PS3 would fail to boot up.
Looks like the rejoicing over all the new features was a bit premature in this case. We’re sure everything will be sorted out quickly– after all, this doesn’t exactly look good for Sony going into E3 in two weeks.
Update: Sony has responded to the issue at hand via their official PlayStation blog, confirming that the update has in fact been taken down and that they’re working to determine what went wrong in order to quickly rectify the situation. [ Thanks Bruce ]

I gave up after about an hour of trying. I am sure they will fix it.

[Update: SCEA has issued a formal statement via the official PlayStation blog confirming that firmware 2.40 has "temporarily" been taken offline until it can "isolate the problem" and "identify a solution."]
This is why Sony pisses me off. They had how long to work on this damn thing? Seemed to work just fine in their dandy little demonstration videos!!

Appears to be a minority of individuals who have not downloaded the full update - meaning that there will obviously be problems. Out of over 600 individuals on Neogaf, only 1 person had their PS3 bricked. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=324089&page=13
