Microsoft Exec Says “Fantastic Suprises” Will Be Revealed At E3

I have often tried to obtain a comment from Microsoft regarding the many rumors that circle their company. The majority of responses I get are along the lines of “Microsoft does not respond to rumors”. Every once in a while though, you get a slightly wordier version, which essentially adds up the same thing but sounds much better on paper.
In a recent interview with MCV, Microsoft VP of Strategic Marketing, David Gosen, was asked to elaborate on Microsoft’s plans for this years E3, to which Gosen replied:
“It would be churlish of me to ruin the fantastic surprises awaiting everybody at E3. Clearly we’ll use that to make a number of announcements.
We place a huge amount of importance on R&D and innovation. We’re always working on new things. And you’ll continue to hear lots of things from us that we believe will be game-changing. But you’ll just have to wait for those to be officially announced by us.”
So it appears that Microsoft will be unleashing “fantastic surprises” at E3 with the added bonus of “game-changing” news to follow. If you are asking yourself “what does this mean?” The answer is simple. It means nothing. It is essentially the fancy interview equivalent of “no comment”.
Just once I would love to hear a marketing exec (3D Realms doesn’t count) respond with something like this:
“E3? I totally forgot about that. I guess we’ll have to plan on winging it this year. We’ll likely wait until about 20 minutes before our keynote starts. I’ll pop a few Tic Tacs and make a mad dash for the stage. If I don’t see a podium immediately, I’ll do a quick fly/zipper check to make sure the family jewels aren’t exposed . Then I’ll bust out a few knock knock jokes and wrap things up by handing out free beverage coupons. Our market research shows gamers love free caffeinated beverages.”
Both responses reveal just as much about the company’s actual plans, but one is far more entertaining.
