Infinite Undiscovery Details: Aya’s Pet Bear, Symphonic Blade

Famitsu has the scoop on some new details about Infinite Undiscovery, the tri-Ace/Square Enix RPG for Xbox 360.  The game begins with Capel, a flute player, imprisoned due to his resemblance to the actual hero of the story, Sigmund. Luckily, the guards aren’t the only people to mistake him, so he is rescued by a cute, freckled girl called Aya. The new details revolve mostly around Aya, but also shed a little more light on the types of moves we can expect from the Connect Action system.

Screenshots on the Famitsu site seem to indicate the case that Aya may have a double as well, maybe a princess? Who’s that girl all decked out for some sort of ceremony?

One thing we know for sure, is that Aya does have a pet that she’s been raising–a rare animal known as a Crimson Bear.  Is that a unicorn horn coming out of his head, or just part of his armor? In any case, his name is Gustaf, not Iorek–tempting comparison, though. Apparently he’s a “power fighter” and jealous of the attention Aya pays Capel, to the point of snapping at him, even. From one screen in particular, it looks like he will be at least a guest, if not a full-fledged party member, although I’m guessing the latter since it seems he is connecting with Capell (despite the nipping) to perform the move Ignite Fang.

The final new tidbit deals specifically with a move called Symphonic Blade. If I understand correctly, it involves Capel’s sword absorbing the power of his current Connect partner’s Lunagram. So, depending on what party member you pair him with, there will be a different secondary effect to the attack. Looks like it’ll involve something like a quick-time event to choose–here Y is something called Falcon Spread and X is Sparrow Rainfall.

Infinite Undiscovery is set to ship in September for both Japan and the states. It’s one to look forward to!
