WiiWare Game Show Host Has Two Daddies?

by Andrew Podolsky on July 7, 2008 at 1:16 pm

On a recent trip to Gameloft studios in New York, I had a chance to play a bit of their recently released WiiWare title, TV Show King. Although I’m usually allergic to ultra-casual games, there’s nothing particularly offensive to me about a colorful, family-friendly trivia game. However, something about that host seems a bit… familiar.

According to Gameloft, the host was derived from two goofball entertainers– Steve Carell and Jim Carrey. However, if you watch this typical clip from the game, you’ll see that while the voice and appearance seems pretty close to the original guys, he doesn’t really do much in the way of antics.

What’s the matter? Didn’t they want this guy to talk out of his butt a la Ace Ventura, or harass and demean his colleagues like Michael Scott from The Office? Well, his acting may have been toned down, but at least now we know where he got that familiar grin and inflection.
