Xbox 360 Price Cut and New Sku Official

New Sku! New Sku! Another one to add to your collection. This time it’s a 60GB Xbox 360 to mirror Sony’s black monolith. Oh and we hate to say “I told you so,” but the 20GB model will also be receiving a price cut.
It wouldn’t be wrong to postulate the 20GB price drop is meant as incentive to clear the shelves for the 60gb model. In reality, one Sku will be replaced by a new Sku and a price cut will be replaced by a bigger HDD. This concept is all but confirmed by Microsoft’s press release when it states; “an Xbox 360 console with triple the storage space [...] for the same price of $349.” Same price, bigger HDD, stealth clearance.
We suggest that if hard-drive size is of little importance to you, that you grab the Pro Xbox 360 20GB model for $299 “while supplies last” – yes only $299, a mere snip.
Microsoft’s Press Release reads as follows:
Microsoft is giving consumers more gigabytes for their buck. The company today announced an Xbox 360® console with triple the storage space of the original console, but for the same price of $349 (U.S.) estimated retail price.
Available in retail stores in the U.S. and Canada starting in early August, the upgraded Xbox 360 will include a 60GB hard drive for storing the growing wealth of digital entertainment available for the console, including music, movies, television shows, and game content. In addition, Microsoft today dropped the price of its 20GB Xbox 360 console in the U.S. and Canada to just $299 (U.S.) (ERP) while supplies last, a savings of $50.
“We know consumers need more and more space to store the amazing digital content Xbox 360 offers, and we’re giving it to them at no extra charge,” said Albert Penello, Xbox director of product management at Microsoft. “No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver, and now you’ll have three times the storage to manage all that great content.”
Xbox 360 is just one of three Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment systems Microsoft offers. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Arcade, which comes with a 256MB memory unit and five Xbox LIVE Arcade games, is a value for the whole family for $279 (U.S.) (ERP), and the premium Xbox 360 Elite console is available with a 120GB hard drive for $449 (U.S.) (ERP).

About this new 60GB SKU, is the HDD the only difference or are there other changes to the hardware?
on July 13, 2008 11:53 am
Just a bigger hard-drive. Though i’m sure there will be the natural revisions made over a console’s lifetime (ie. smaller die size)

There giving it to us at no extra charge, I expect the free upgrade to 60 gigs then!
The leaked email indicates the 60 gig will be sold separately at $99.99, that means my sh!tty white ugly @ss console will ultimately have cost more then an elite with less storage and still ugly @ss puke white!
I F**king hate these clueless Pr!ck execs doing us favors saying stupid shit like “no extra charge” it’s us with the twenty gigs who wanted bigger storage without having to pay $200 for an @sinine official microsoft hd!
@ssholes! the Whole F**ing lot of them!

No, but seriously, that’s how it goes LC. You’ll be surprised to know that this type of tactic will actually work, making sure console sales keep their momentum.

Hm…I’ve said “making sure” twice. Note to self: Make sure you don’t use “making sure” again.

I been around, I know how it goes but come the F**k on………This sh!t gets old, lame @ss tactics like proprietary technology, selling outdated tech at insanely high prices disproportional to their actual value.
For the cost of there 20 gig I can buy a 250 or there 120, I could buy 320 @ 7200rpms. Thank god micro$oft decided to screw us with a closed system. We get slow, small, ugly enclosure all for the very nice price of RAPE!
3rd place, they deserve it, I hope the whole world falls out from under them! Sick of there doing us a favor pr bullsh!t! Someone needs to b!tch slap this douche bag!
eye contact is not advisable, I saw it on the discovery channel…
