Confirmed: Sonic & The Black Knight Is For Real
by Chad Lakkis on July 20, 2008 at 2:28 am

Update: Sega has responded to the cover, and has announced that the games official product page will hit sega.com tomorrow.
Several hours ago, a Nintendo Power cover surfaced on the popular gaming forum Neogaf. The scan clearly stated that the issue would reveal information on a new Sega IP titled “Sonic & The Black Knight”, however a few sites began to doubt its legitimacy.
Various Photoshop “investigators” went to work hoping to expose the cover as a fake. I decided to go a different route and check to see if SEGA registered the domain name.
It turns out that they most certainly did register sonicandtheblacknight.com on what appears to be July 2, 2008. Below is the domain information extracted directly from the Japan Whois database.

That’s a very smart move to check for a registered domain name, rather then just jumping to photoshop investigation.

Thanks Durffen. What do you think of the move by Sega?
on July 20, 2008 3:05 am
thank you for figuring out if its real or not. tho i wish it was fake…

No problem Gambino. Not sure I understand the move by Sega here either. I will try to find out more as soon as the work week starts back up again.

what i wanna know is how, in all of the internets, only one kid got the issue. how did noone else get theres and run to the net? i mean that was a reason i thought it was fake. but that dream is killed. maybe itll be good? i mean ive seen stranger things happen in the gaming world but… a sword?

Well, keep in mind the cover still has a slim chance of being fake. What isn’t fake is the fact that Sega registered the domain name, and likely intends to use that name for some sort of Sonic related IP.

i really dont think the cover is fake at all. it has those little magazine dots in it all over.

It’s…not fake? I thought it was. Then it’s an actual game. Oh. My. God.
But I doubt this game will be “OMG AWESOME”.
When I see gameplay and the story line, I will determine if this game is Win or Fail.

It’s a very smart idea of you to check an adress; I would have been one of the idiots trying to see if the cover was photoshopped.
But on the game, I would rather it be a fake. It’s like a really stupid April Fool’s joke, because I doubt even SEGA would be able to pull off some sword-weilding Sonic… it just seems too weird; as if trying to mush together the ‘Fire Emblem’ game series (which also contains a villian knowen as the ‘Black Knight’) , Legend of Zelda games, and Sonic games, which would end up being… more than likely, an epic failure.
But, of course, displays what SEGA has managed to do with Sonic now-a-days. Alot of these ‘Epic Failures’, with extra un-used characters and nothing to make a sequal on, so I expect this to be no diffrent.

Oh come on, guys. It can’t POSSIBLY be as bad as Sonic Next/Sonic 360/Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)/Whatever you want to call it.
Give it a chance.

wow,They really are experimenting with sonic’s games now.
but actually….When i think of Sonic running at hyper speed swinging a sword it looks cool!

I totally agree, although this game could very well be a total flop, it could just as easily be an awesome game. running at high speeds, slashing without loosing intense speed, It reminds me of the werehog in sonic unleashed, but instead you keep the speed. Still though this is really a gamble. The skill pt. sys. scares me a little, I didn’t like it in Secret Rings, the items and missions fine, but the skill pts? I personally do not mind putting other characters in the game as playable, as long as they are optionally taking a break from Sonic might be fun once in a while. Knuckles uses two swords and Shadow uses a magic Angst powered one. I recieved this issue last Friday and it’s not fake. I won’t dismiss this game as a bad game untill I play it, seriously, some people over react to EVERYTHING. The werehog gameplay doesn’t look bad at all, kinda bad@$$, and thswordplay looks just as interesting. As long as the developers are really learning from their mistakes there won’t be a serious problem with this game.
