“Dreamcrushed” Sega Says No To Dreamcast 2
by Chad Lakkis on July 23, 2008 at 6:46 pm
In an E3 interview conducted with Sega’s President, Simon Jeffery, the Dreamcast revival is jokingly brought up, only to be shot down immediately by Jeffery. The tone of his response in doing so is very routine, and downright unaffectionate to the plight of the many loyal Sega fans who continue to grasp at Dreamcast 2 straws.
We get the business side of it Simon, we really do, but is it really asking too much for you to seem sympathetic when you utter the words that break our collective hearts?
Have at the video interview after the jump, and make sure to have a box of tissues handy — you may need them.
Oh, and if you like the image featured at the top of this post, I am considering making up a few t-shirts if enough people express interest. Leave a comment if you want one and we will go from there. Once again, thank you Sega.

I’ll take a few
on July 24, 2008 1:34 am
They have a chance to start from scratch but I guess since things have been doing well for them for a while, that they don’t wanna try making a new system and end up where they were before, after the Dreamcast. Since they don’t want to make a new one (still), I’ll buy that shirt.

I happen to agree with you Edward, but the sad reality is that it’s up to them.

@ Christian
If you want to still play Powerstone they did end up porting both Powerstone 1 & 2 to the PSP and called it the Powerstone Collection so if you have a PSP and want to play it I suggest you look for it although it is kinda hard to find now. Good Luck!!!

@wolf26pack
hey thanks so much! I was thinking about getting a PSP too and I think that pretty much closed the deal. Sony should give you a referal fee or something :).
I don’t know about you guys but when I totally correlate Dreamcast with great childhood memories (are teens considered childhood?). The first time you see Sonic running from that giant killer whale, or the “Holy crap!” graphics of Soul Caliber, and the inventive usage of cell shading of Jet Grind Radio. You’ll always have a special place in my heart, Dreamcast. You deserved better.

No Problem I wish I could get money from Sony that easily. I have plenty of idea’s for them and I am sure a lot of gamers do too. If you are located in the U.S. I found the game for a rather cheap price so if you want it I will link the site so you can compare prices

Have Fun with the Game it’s a blast.

Ohh BTW I forgot to mention I would end up using Deep Discount DVD. I have used them to Purchase DVD’s and they are really good place to purchase things. Not only do they have free shipping but there customer Service is excellent. Of course if you are able to deal with Amazon.com directly then that is a cool trust worthy place to purchase it too. Just thought I would mention this. Ohh and if your wondering I don’t work for either Deep Discount DVD or Amazon.

Matt, stop acting like the Dreamcast failed. It wasn’t as successful as it could have been, but it shouldn’t be considered a disaster that brings SEGA down.

Oh, here’s a suggestion to Sony:
Stop producing video game consoles and lose lots of money over it.
There are several things that I REALLY hate, one of those things is Sony.
With their stronger financial backing and ridiculously gigantic advertising projects they crushed the Saturn, the 64, the Dreamcast and almost the Gamecube.
When a very large company uses sheer advertising power vs. the ingenuity and creativity of a smaller but better company’s better product (Saturn, Dreamcast) stupid people flock like sheep without ever doing the math.
Of course, Sony doesn’t want you to do the math, because they have already done it and bloated it for you, like the ps2 could never pull off 15,000,000 polygons/sec. they were honestly only at about 5,000,000, now compare that with the Dreamcast’s 3,000,000, and actually even more, Sega was being modest and there really isn’t much of a difference. (Besides the DVD of course) But my fellow Americans (myself included, I was in fifth grade at the time) believed that the Sony consol would be WAY better than the Dreamcast in EVERY way.
What a disappointment; like I said, I hate Sony. They should make television sets for people to play their Segas on and maybe publish video games, for Sega of course.

It’d be cool if SEGA released a Dreamcast 2. I was a SEGA kid growing up. I could even remember wanting my parents to get me the Sega Saturn when I was younger. I didn’t get it and about 2 years later, I started to hear about Sony’s new Playstation. I ended up getting a Playstation because I had a friend at the time that had a Sega Saturn. Needless to say, I’m glad my parents didn’t buy me the Sega Saturn because…it sucks. Lack of stelar games is what killed them. Sonic is good and all, but you gotta look past the blue hedgehog. SEGA didn’t do that and people became dissatisfied w/ SEGA. I remember my friend only had like 2 games for the Saturn. The Sonic game and Virtua Fighter. SEGA lost to Sony due to the lack of third party support which led to a poor library of games. Sony did everything they could to make sure the Playstation was a success in the USA, it was and still is. Sorry but the Playstation was in everyway better than the Dreamcast and Saturn. You can’t deny that. And if you do, then why is Sony still in the console business and SEGA isn’t? Remember, SEGA got crushed by Sony’s Playstation and Playstation 2. Dreamcast is light-years better than the Saturn, but it was too little too late.

Sega made sony ; I say this because Sega was the first to bring out better graphics and the consoles adapted to cds. The sega saturn came out before the playstation. The sega dreamcast came out with amazing graphics for its time and once again sony waited a few years to study the sega consoles before they released ps2 to find out how they did it. And the whole world took the bait just because the ps2 was able to play dvds. Aint that a shame.SEGA RULES !!!!!!!!

I think that the main reason for dreamcast not making it, like ps2 did. Was a mixture of different things.. Well yes… Dreamcast is great, yet i have seen more tvspots for ps2 than any other 128 bit generation consoles. Dreamcast missing out on this, in my country.
I think the biggest reason for ps2 winning over dreamcast, is the fact, that ps2 got a dvd-drive built in. Dreamcast did not have this, and sega only showed a addon dvd-player thing, wich was'nt even showed working. Mind this, that the ps2 is the number one reason, for the popularity of dvd's. If ps2 did only have cd-drive then….
Well then it could have been different. Then it might have been xbox crushing dreamcast, and ps2 would have suffered the way that ps3 does now a days…
We might have had a "war" on xbox versus dreamcast, and then… If games were more plentifull on dreamcast around the release of xbox, then sega would still sell dreamcast today, or have produced dreamcast2.
