Hands-On Preview: Princess Debut
by Emily Balistrieri on July 23, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Every 6-12 year old female wants to be princess of a world with talking animals, right? A dancing, fancily dressed princess with a sexy prince on her arm? Enter Princess Debut, built from scratch by Natsume expressly for the hearts of little girls.
This single player dating and dancing sim sets a clear goal for the protagonist: find a prince in 30 days while learning to dance, and rock the ball. Luckily, your rabbit teacher (a mite scary, I must say) is there to make sure you master the moves of the rumba, waltz, tango, and more.
There are four play modes: story, practice, ballroom (score attack), and movie. This last allows you to watch the dances performed for you with the fluid mo-capped animation–including the real footprint-steps overlaid to the music, in case you are the type of girl who would like to puzzle out the complicated steps and dance with your friends in the living room. People do that! You’ve probably seen them on Youtube!
The part we got to see consisted mostly of dancing. Seemed to be a pretty simple matter of following a big purple spot with the point of your stylus. Depending on what date you end up scoring, the story branches off in different ways, which could be good for replayability.
The princess makes her debut on DS in fall of this year.
