I think people who own an Xbox 360 were interested in the Microsoft conference and people who own a PS3 were interested in the Sony conference.

Am I right? Or am I right?

innovation and creativity? What about Lips (the karaoke game that lets you use your Ipod! amazing!) and You’re in the movies (the game that puts you in B movies) or the new Banjo Kazooie? that has to more than make up for fat princess.

and i have to stress netflix again. this makes Live really robust, and basically wins the war of downloadable content for Microsoft, at least when it comes to movies.

and i agree with landis, even though they announced more exclusives like God of war 3 the tone and pacing of the conference were pretty bad. It really did feel like they were playing catch up with their downloadable content, apologizing about home and dwelling in the past with the PS2. There really wasn’t the confidence and swagger of Microsoft’s conference.

Even though Microsoft didn’t announce a ton of new AAA titles, they focused on the ones we were already super excited about by showing the new fallout 3 trailer and ridiculously awesome new Gears footage.

but hey, like i said man, PS3 had some good stuff too, i think i freaked out more than most people for MAG, but conferences really aren’t won on new game announcements alone. it’s not just what newsworthy stuff comes out of it, its the tone, its the feel that you get about the company as a whole and how interested you are throughout the whole presentation.

Even if you think Sony made better announcements doesn’t mean Sony’s conference was better. If Microsoft announced a few good things in a short period of time versus Sony who announced some good things and then made you sit there for a half hour bored out of your mind before they announced something else good, then I would have to say that Microsoft’s Conference was better. And I did say that, actually. You can’t just look at the bullet-points as the sole factor in making your decision.

Jonathan, a desert of boredom? The main difference between Microsoft and Sony is that Sony announced *new* games, games of which we’ve never heard of before. MAG, Fat Princess…I mean seriously. I was more interested in Sony’s conference than Microsoft’s conference. All Microsoft ever did was show off cheap ass knockoffs of things developed by Nintendo, not to mention Sony.

While the Netflix thing was nice, I would have liked to see more innovation/creativity from Microsoft.

whoa whoa whoa, wait a minute… did you sit and watch all of Sony’s press conference, or did you you watch highlights? because the middle of Sony’s was a desert of boredom. They talked about the PS2 for like 20 mins, for crying out loud! plus they spent a lot of time on their movie download service, which felt like a severe case of playing catch up to microsoft.

Plus i voted for microsoft because of the Netflix announcement, which is HUGE for a lot of us in the US, but i suppose, quite a dud for people in the UK and other places where netflix isn’t.

Granted, they were close and i was happy to see Sony narrow the gap. MAG and Resistance were especially good.

and we got to play fallout 3 for 30 mins. BLOWN AWAY. you don’t get the feel just from the trailers. I haven’t played a game that engrossing and smooth in a LONG time. i was so flustered i could hardly conduct my interview.

Agreed. Microsoft’s conference was a snooze fast. Bunch of multiplatform games, casual games, boring charts, etc. OH AND FFXIII BOOM. Yea, not impressed.

Sony’s was elegant, all exclusives, charts were even fun to watch, a few nice surprises, etc. Overall superior.

And yea Mirror’s Edge should get best multi-platform, not Fallout 3.

“As Square Enix later clarified, the game is being finished for the PS3 first for Japan, then work will begin on porting it to the Xbox 360 for a simultaneous release in the U.S. and Europe (it will release simultaneously on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in those territories, though the game may not release in both territories at the same time).”

Where are you hearing that it is coming out a year later on the 360?

Kinda agree with Moo… Even though he didn’t have a reason. The only thing that was good about the Microsoft conference was FFXIII going to 360. Even then, it’s coming a year later. So it isn’t that big of an announcement. I think Sony’s was the best overall. Lots of new announcements, brilliant games, brilliant new trailers…
Nintendos was terrible.
Microsoft’s would’ve been a lot better if there was a Bungie announcement.

Excellent read, however i disagree for Best Multiplatform Game: Fallout 3
