EA Simulates Favre’s Impact On 2009 Season

by Wade Larson on July 30, 2008 at 1:20 pm

Summer is a slow time. And I don’t mean just for video games. Summer is also that special time of year when nothing exciting happens in sports. Ever. Screw baseball, it’s slow and monotonous, even if you do happen to like the sport. And NASCAR is just a contest to see who can turn left the most. Lame.

So when there is any news in the sports world during the summer, everyone jumps on it like the last cupcake and at overeater’s anonymous convention, which is why anyone who follows sports knows that Brett Favre is the story of the summer; especially EA, who put the then-retired legend on the front of Madden 09.

Now, they’re trying to figure out where the former MVP will do best the only way they know how: in a simulation.

Speculation abounds about the fate of the retired-hero-turned-pariah, and where he will go. Personally, I hope he goes to the Vikings, if for no other reason than to wear a purple #4 jersey around my Packer-fan friends in revenge for all the times he’s foiled my hopes for the playoffs.

But EA took the speculation one step further and ran a series of simulated seasons to see where Favre would have the most success. According to EA’s predictions, the Vikings will only make the playoffs with Favre at the helm. Which is nonsense, since, you know, they have this guy Adrian Peterson. But it’s interesting none the less. Check out the stats (you know how sports people love stats) below.

With Farve at the helm of each team

Without Farve at the helm of each team

So there you have it. Looks like only the Packers will do better without him. And I guess that’s a good thing, since its unlikely he’ll be staying in Green Bay. Now EA just needs to re-run that sim until the Vikings win the Super Bowl.
