Peter Hines Talks Xbox and Fallout 4

by Dylan Duarte on August 4, 2008 at 1:06 am

Bethesda’s Peter Hines recently touched on why they prefer the Xbox 360 over the PC and other gaming systems and also confirmed plans for Fallout 4. Read it up after the break.

“If you have the PC as your lead machine you have the problem of not knowing what configurations people have, how many gigs of RAM or what graphics card they have.”

“Obviously we are more familiar with the Xbox because we have used it for longer and the other thing is that the Xbox is much easier to take to tech shows. We can just pop the hard-drive off the Xbox and put it on any machine which is an advantage. Taking the PC or PS3 to these things just isn’t convenient.”

He also drove home the fact that the downloadable content that will be available for Fallout 3 is exclusive to PC and Xbox 360.

“When I say exclusive I mean it is exclusive to just the Xbox 360 and PC. If you want to play the Fallout 3 downloadable content you will need to have an Xbox 360 or a PC.”

And finally, we have confirmation of more Fallout after Fallout 3.

“We didn’t buy the Fallout franchise to just do Fallout 3 and then stop. But let’s get this one out of the door before we worry about the next one.”

I think a lot of gamers are already worrying about the next one, Pete. I can almost guarantee it.

Noooo, you mean the PS3 will miss out on the post-apocalyptic horse armour? Hmm, will have to wait till nearer the time to decide on the best home for that game.

Never mind Fallout 4, when’s the next Elder Scrolls being made?

Also, I though swapping out a PS3 HD was pretty easy too, was this kind of soundbite included in the price MS paid for the exclusive? Are Bethesda not allowed luggage when they go to tech shows?

what about the game boy advance? no fallout 3 on the GBA? COME ON!

btw, i’m glad that fallout 1 is appearing on gametap, but don’t you think that xbla or psn coulda benefited from having it on their virtual shelves…

Dude, holy shit. They should release Fallout 1 and 2 on XBLA and PSN. Symphony of the Night is on XBLA, and I think Fallout should be next on that list. In fact, they should make them into Arcade games and then just put them on the Fallout 3 disc, or make it a pre-order bonus like the Fable Pub Games (which also comes in the Collector’s Edition even if you don’t pre-order). It’s probably too late to do that now, though.
