Gearbox Developing Halo 4?

There are different levels of “holy shit” -ness associated with different internet rumors and this one definitely ranks up near the top: Gearbox, the developers of the Brothers in Arms series, is developing Halo 4 as a launch title for the next Xbox system.
The rumor - which hit the net yesterday - comes from Ben Fritz, technology writer for Variety. Fritz now claims that his source close to the developers confirms that while Gearbox definitely talked to Microsoft about helming the new Halo game, no firm plans have been set. This wouldn’t be the developer’s first time handling a Halo game, as they’re responsible for Halo: Combat Evolved’s PC port.
If Gearbox is indeed working on Halo 4 for the next Microsoft system, I wouldn’t expect actual confirmation for a least a year.
