August NPD: Xbox 360 Regains Second Place
by Patrick Steen on September 11, 2008 at 3:53 pm

For a number of months Sony’s PlayStation 3 showed dominance in the US, taking the video gaming market by the scruff of the neck. Due to Solid Snakes return to Sony’s platform, the previously leading Xbox 360 had lost its second place crown.
Nintendo’s Wii might still be King of the now-gen consoles, but this month Microsoft’s Xbox 360 recaptured some ground and with recent price cuts it’s hard not to suppose more of the same before the end of the year.

Even though the PS3 lagged ever so slightly behind the Xbox 360 this month, NPD analyst Anita Fazier points out that compared to last August “the PSP and PS3 systems achieved the greatest percentage gain of all now-gen systems.” Let’s hope LittleBigPlanet will live up to its “system seller” potential and give Sony’s console a much needed boost.
